When out in the boat what is considered a practical number of rigged rods to bring along. I usually fish out of an 18 foot boat with one other fisherman. I figure 4 or 5 is about the most I have space for. How many do you guys carry?

I TRY not to have more then 4 rod's per person while casting but that never work's, usually 5 to 6 per person.

This depends on the time of year.

Spring time I carry sucker rods, glide bait rods, bucktail rods and twitching rods.

Summer time I will have trolling rods, top water/Bull Dawg rods and bucktail rods.

Fall I will have everything with me. Rods stashed in the rod lockers, down the sides of my boat in the back and front.

10 to 18 rods would not be unusual. Most of the time I would guess 10 rods on average until Fall. This is in a 20ft Ranger 620VS Fishermen.

I carry 2 rods...yep 2. I only have 2 hands and can only use one at a time. I'm not going to have 7 different things to throw back at a follow.....if it dont hit the second thing, I guess it just doesnt get a meal.

I am now up to 3 rods with a spare. I figure one rod for tails, one for cranks, and one for jerkbaits. I feel that any more than that is a little overkill. If I added a 4th rod, it would be for creatures/jigs.

10 for casting seems to be a good # for me. Except for the fly rod I will be getting. i can't wait to get one on a fly rod. If you have 5 rods with some back up reels you have plenty.

Will have 4 to 5 rigged and ready to go. Would have more but being a college kid and the money sititution kinda causes problems with having more right now. But once the college degree comes then hopefully I can top Mr. Worrall or at least come some what close to him! Doubt that! But I'm a tackle holic, the more the better! I guess spending money on rods, lures and other tackle is better than wasting money on beer and drugs.

I just ordered 6 new Fig Rig Rods. In my current Lund, I'll carry 4 or 5 for me when I know I'll just be casting. When trolling, I'll carry 2 casting rods, and 8 or 10 setups for trolling. In the fall, when I'll sucker fish, I'll carry 2 casting, and two sucker rods. I think I'll have a bit more room in the new Tuffy, so I may keep all my stuff in the rod locker. Then again, I may keep my casting rods , and my walleye sitcks too! I got way too much stuff!

If I'm a guest in someone else's boat I limit mysef to 2-3. In my own boat, 4-5 on deck and 4 trolling rods available in the rod lockers.

I have 3 rods for casting (bucktail, cranks, jerkbait ), and 3 for trolling.1 of the trolling rods doubles as a sucker rod. When I first started muskie fishing I went a little overboard, and bought more rods hat I eally needed. 3 casting is perfect for me.

Two Bucktail rods, one for small tails and one for larger tails.
One Large Tandem spinnerbait rod.
One Jerkbait/glider Rod.
Two Crankbait Rods one for large baits, one for small baits.
One topwater rod.
Three jig rods, one for the weeds, one for the rocks and a swim jig of some sort.
One Bulldawg rod.
Seems like I carry a few extras but these are what I need and use on a regular basis.

When all is said and done you really could get by with one casting rod and two trolling rods.

Only reason there are multiple casting rods is that some manufacturer out there figured out that anybody stupid enough to spend $30 on a lure would be stupid enough to buy 6 rods...

Geez Worrall, you've given me something to shoot for with that many rods rigged up!!

I carry all my rods with me all the time so I'll even have canepoles stashed in my boat but just for muskie stuff this year's breakdown will be 1 flyrod, 7 baitcast setups with 2 backup reels. Toss in the 4 spinning rods, 1 flyrod, 1 lighter baitcast rod, and 1-2 canepoles for other species. I even have a couple of ice rods in my boat for a very specific application.

2-7'6" MH Premiers for larger gliders like 8" Shakers, 8" Hugheys, 10" Suicks,
4-8' Avids for example....CJ Spinnerbait, Bulldawg, Pacemaker. Twitchbait or another topwater. Depends what they are chasing.
2-7'6" H Avids.....Gliders...Castor, Perka, Perkettes, 6" HR's
Couple of trolling rods from time to time too. Throw a jig rod in there...........

I simply use one rod for every bait I throw.

I have one rod for me, and I use that one rod, no matter if I am twitching, using a bucktail, throwing topwater, working a glider, jigging, etc...

My clients rods: they also have "one" rod. 8 foot Professional Edge Diamondback.

I do carry more, which are in the rod locker, but I usually only have one rod for each person.

I usually have about six rod/reel combos in my locker on most trips. Somedays I will take only two depending on the conditions and the body of water I'm fishing.
