| I'm fortunate enough to have a decent size pond on my property. The ice left yesterday and I was able
to test out some new winter purchases. I thought a couple of you might want to discuss experiences with new equipment now that many of us are getting a chance to fish or test stuff out.
Abu Garcia Record 60 Reel- Pretty sweet. I was very happy with the casting performance of this new reel. Very smooth, good casting length, and the large thumb bar is a definite upgrade. In the past I have been using the more expensive Millionaire DVZ's but this might change entirely. Will have to see what the drag is like on a fish but so far so good. Very pleased.
Baits- A couple of baits really stood out yesterday.
H20 Cranky Nitro- YIKES! This bait is going to become a real regular. Fantastic erratic twitching action. She jumps all over and the fast rise with a bit of a wiggle will be great around weed patches. You can almost work it like you would a 10" Suick. Very nice bait. I guess they have an additional model with a slow rise which might be good for cold water, high pressure, times too.
Lee Lure Wood Chopper- I have a feeling this bait will become my new favorite prop bait. Very loud pop even at a relatively slow speed. Very nice lure.
Lee Lure Top H20- I have been wanting to pick one of these up for quite a while. I have caught quite a few fish on husky size hog wobblers. Totally different sound but I like the fact you can work it faster and dive it under and walk the dog with it at boat side too. I had several people tell me they didn't care for this bait but I' m wondering how much time they gave it? We will see.
Hughes River MVT- I see why the Hughes River cult is so impressed.
Joel Wick Creepers. I will post a pic of my Wick creepers. Still, by far, the best sounding creepers I have ever heard. It is the large custom made , light guage, stainless steel wings that seem to make all the difference.
B.S. Willy Creepers- I am very pleased with both of my new B.S. WIlly creepers. I was very happy with the jointed one. Less than half the price of the Wick creepers as well.
10" Large Jointed Stalkers- Have been a long time fan of the regular sized stalkers. These new ones are very much like a big jointed believer. Much more side to side wobble and can be run just a foot or two under the surface.
Just some of my thoughts. It is fun testing baits. You know now that open water is almost here. Even had a couple of large flocks of Tundra Swans fly overhead. A refreshing change from World Record Musky internet talk, ha, ha. I will try to post a pic of the Wick Creepers, and the Cranky Nitro.

Location: Marshfield, WI | Here is a pic of my Cranky Nitro. This is one of the slow rise cranks. I threw it in the pool at La Crosse and liked it a lot. It also had a lot of wiggle and just hung there on the pause, just waiting for a musky to hammer it.
Another new bait I got is ShaneW's Timberwolf glider, that just happened to be in the same pic. I haven't used it yet but I saw Shane throw it in the pool and it had real good action to it.
