| Won't quote the whole article but for those KY musky hunters that CAN read, there was unwanted news in the Lexington Herald in an Art Lander article on the outdoors page, which reports a Denzel Brewer, owner of Frenchburg Sporting Goods as saying "I'm not encouraging people to kill the muskies they catch, but that's what needs to happen."(The whole article is on C14 of the Sunday edition 2/10/002 of the Herald) He intends helping this occur by offering a $500 drawing from all those entrants who bring a muskie into his store, the more muskies you bring in the better chance you have to grab that fabulous prize.
To sum up his thinking as put forth in the article, if enough muskies are killed, pre pubescent children will once again be able to catch something in the lake!!
I about kacked out when I read this. So now, if you guys on the outing come down here and want to kill your fish this guy will give you a chance to enter a drawing that might cover your expenses.[]
So, when you come down make sure you stop at Frenchburg Sporting Goods and get your entry blanks!! This summer after the contest I will take my 11 year old daughter up there and see if maybe finally she can catch a fish in the lake once those darn muskies are gone.[:knockout:]

| I have heard of this attitude around Green River Lake as well. Unfortunately, there are ignorant people all over. And, it is easier to blame other things for their own ineptness (sp?) instead of looking in the mirror.[:(] | |

| Maybe we should ALL stop and pay him a visit at the same time and talk a little bit about the forrage base and what muskies actually eat.

| Maybe Tony will loan us his mount of his state record and we can all take turns taking it in and registering it. Then we'll take this guy's $500 and buy out his pitiful little business and send him home. m | |

| FSF- Doug Johnson posted the URL link in his "Cave" post- Maybe good if MF could combine these two posts.
Here's the message from DougJ's post.
"Here's some more ante muskie simular to the lake Miltona the no more muskie's group, only southern style. This appeared in the Lexington Herald-Leader Sunday edition. Not sure what to do, but more education is clearly needed.

I personally see this as a positive for the Lexington Herald-Leader. They obviously did some research and printed the facts, including many against the guy's contest. The Muskie world needs to recognise that they did the Cave Muskie fishery a service and saying thank you for publishing this, i.e., it was raised to a new level.
Otherwise there would probably have just been the stupid $500 contest + many dead Muskies and no public outcry over the stupidity of the whole thing.
Tony Grant, Crash Mullins & other guides from Cave haven't weighed in on the issue. But that's Ok, every Muskie fisherman who fish's Cave should be up in arms and like Doug J. says - organizing a cohesive effort to educate this sporting goods shop owner and the community as to the stupidity of his actions. Rage and flaring tempers are not going to solve this issue.
With ~ 28 Muskie nut's from MF coming to the Cave for an outing- How about 14 Muskie rigs parked in front of his shop w/ civil discourse about Muskies from 28 concerned fisherman. He's probably listening to the local crappie guy's whining about poor catches. Better yet! Maybe Tony & local guides could facilitate a face to face meeting with him,you guy's (MF crew), and local state Biologist so his concerns are addresed openly. Plus if he really cares about the quality of the Cave fishery he needs to get involved w/ the local state biologist. Just leave your temper's home- It's easier to win by taking the high road.
Maybe one of you guys could take him out & show'em how to catch crappies, bluegills etc. When I was 12 years old I was already hooked on ESOX (Fish w/teeth). [] Jeez- That was forty years ago [:((]

| Well, the real scary part is that a bait shop owner knows so little about natural forage issues and food chains at his local lake. Could be his customers listen to his advice and that's why the catch is off. If you read the article, which I think was very well don, the fish biologist seems to give perfectly acceptable explanations on why the white bass and crappie catches have been off. But, let's not let science get in the way of our prejudices, I guess. m | |

| "Prepared properly muskie make fine table fare",,,,
This may not be word for word, but I know it's close to what's written in the KY. book of regulation...... also a fisherman is allowed 2 muskies over 30" per day...... [:(] | |

| I say that everyone on the MF trip should go into the store, pick a huge pile of tackle, bring it to the counter and tell them "this is what I WOULD have bought from you if you weren't such an ignorant such and such." and walk out leaving all the merchandise at the register. | |
