| I have it sitting on a saw horse in the basement, waiting for the warmer weather to arrive. I have run it once a few weeks ago in a container of water, but did not shift it ( did not want to mop up the room) Anyway, I can shift it from neutral to forward, but it does not want to go back into reverse. I don't know it there is a problem here. Have had it for a month tomorrow. The dealer started it for me and shifted it thru w/o any problems. Am I worrying over nothing? Wait till I have it running again, then try to shift it? Thanks. |

I wouldn't worry about it if the dealer had no problem with it while it was running. My Merc will somtimes do the same thing when it's not running (I always trailer my boat in reverse to the prop doesn't spin). It's the way the gears line up/don't line up in the case that prevents it from going into gear.
Try spinning the prop by hand and then putting it in reverse. It may take a couple tries but it should eventually slide into gear.

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | yep...your worrying over nothing. The gears are not lined up. If you pull the starter cord a little ways out, and push the lever to reverse, it will catch and go...
Nothing to worry about..it should be just fine.
Now if we can only get rid of this darn snowcover and get the soft water back...

| I spun the prop while in forward til it stopped and it shifted right back into reverse. Sweatin' over nothing. theeDZ155- you leave the motor in gear (reverse) so the prop doesn't spin when trailering it? |

| Absolutely.
Learned that from a guy who used to fish bass tourney's and trailered all over the place.
When you put it in reverse, it won't spin while your driving down the road. That way, if the road dust/dirt/grime gets in/near the seal the spinning of the prop won't grind that stuff into your seal and roach it. Might not be a huge worry under most circumstances but it's one less thing I have to worry about when I get where I'm going.

| I wonder what kind of speed is needed to make em spin??? I have a bit of tarp left after trimming a 16x20 foot one I bout for covering the boat. Maybe make a wrap for the lower part as long as it will stay on. Bungee it to the transom. That would keep it clean. Thanks for the help. |

| Took the boat out for the first time this past Sunday to break it in. Had it out for two hours and we used 1/8 of a tank of gas, approx. 56 oz. Less than 1/2 gallon. Ran it at different speeds. After the first hour of slow settings I gunned it to see a speed of 19 mph on the gps. We could talk between us, but it wasn't as quiet as I had hoped. I'll have to wait to hear a two strokeer sitting next to me to hear the diff. |
