The first muskie I ever caught lived by my Grandmas pier on Lake Katherine all summer. I tried for it a lot but I could never get it to hit. Then, one day, I saw it chasing minnows. I put a minnow on, casted it towards him, and it bit my line. I ran up to my Grandma and she gave me this big hook. I took that down, stuck a minnow on, and got it. Big 15" musky. My first on a lure was in Canada. We were fishing three in the boat and I was in the middle. The guy on my right had a follow and we all figure8ed the fish. The fish swam under the boat and the other guys started to cast. I kept figure8ing. The fish came back and hit my bucktail. I don't remember how big, maybe 27". I think I was 17 at the time.

The first musky lure I ever got was a gift from my Grandma. It was an 8" Eddie bait. Once, I had a 50" follow on a 6" reef hawg. It was 20 minutes until moonset, so I stayed in the area and came back and figured that Eddie bait would be perfect for him. 2nd cast, wham, fish on. I gave it a good hookset, expecting the 50" musky. Turned out to be a 25" musky. That is the only fish I ever caught on that bait because my uncle lost it the next summer.

Lures- Mepps and a 6" Bobbie Bait and a Radtke Pikie Minnow
Rod and reel- I had a 6'6" Ugly Stick with a Daiwa Millionaire on it.
First fish was a 44"er on a 1/8 ounce jig/fathead minnow combo. Yes I kept it. It was close to death by the time that I got it to the boat.
First targetted fish was a 38"er on the Radtke Pikie minnow, followed by a 42"er the next day on the Bobbie Bait.
Never been the same since.

1st on purpose--caught on a Globe
!st lure- bought a Globe and Shannon twin spin
1st outfit- Pflueger Supreme and Heddon 5' glass pool cue. Now hanging on my wall.
The fun part was having my son catch his 1st muskie (40") on the rod and reel on a sucker before it was permanently retired.

1st muskie .... a 40" kentuck beauty
1st lure ... perch cobb
1st combo ... 400 calcutta w/ St. Croix 7'6" Heavy

that cobb got tossed a lot during that first year and caught a lot of fish since .... a bit torn up, but still in the box. still throw that rod and although i'm using the b-calcuttas more (like the newer handles), the reel is still in the rotation too.

suggestion to new people ... buy good stuff right away and you won't have to do things twice or thrice .... and if you do want out, it's easier to sell. oh, and if you do want out ... you're just a wimp anyway ... LOL

First lure = A Tallywacker with a funky paint job that changed from dark purple to light green depending on the angle you looked at it (like the Superior Ambulance paint jobs... I think it is Superior). Most of the paint is gone from banging it off rocks.

First Combo = 6500C3 / 7' Shimano Compre

First Fish = 33" in LOTW on last day of a ten day trip (Looked like a hammer handle and I was as giddy as a school girl)
