A couple of us here at UWSP are looking at starting a club that will hopefully bring Point alumni and current students together to talk muskies, have an outing, share old college stories ect. How many guys we got out there are Point alum or students?

Mike

After my stint and Associates Degree at Vermillion, I spent another three years at Point to earn my bachelors... '99 to '01.. Awesome school, with some great times had hunting, fishing, and of course going to the "square".

Point Grad 92
Im in!
To what extent remains to be seen. I do not know if I could hadle the nights on the square, 12 hr's of musky fishing, cocktail at the body shop in rapids, then back to the square. Repeat
That is a young mans game.

I'm here now and loving every minute of it. I think I'm enjoying the extra curricular activities such as chasing women more than anything. But Pointer and I are working on getting something together, just wanted to see just how many attended Point.

99 grad. I would be game for an outing. Seems to be a lot of Pointers floating around the message boards. You boys still in college should check out The 12 Aposlte Muskie Club in Point. We have monthly meetings and have free beer! We could use some youngblood in the group.

Jeff Hopkins

Sled if you ever partied in Point you count. Did you ever play rugby at Rusty's during Articfest? Mother of all drunks!

Don't make me get a REAL school alumni/student musky club together !! I know some Badgers that can FISH (we can party like rock stars too and our chicks were/are hotter!!)

Easy now, PP102 (save it for broomball and floor hockey)......just trying to have a little fun. LOL

That sounds like a great idea. You have A LOT of quality people to draw from.

Hey Mo,

I went to Madtown my first year. Lived in SelleryB '86-'87. Does that qualify me for the Madison outings as well?

Let's see....Church Key; Kollege Klub; Red Shed; the Flaming-O, I mean the Flamingo, the Nitty Gritty.

Oh, and who can forget Cue-Nique Billiards? I cashed in on many a dollars here. In fact, a few 4 digit nights here in cash earnings, and a few 4 digit nights here in cash LOSES. The losses REALLY hurt.

What others did I forget about from those days? There were so many establishments that kept so many of my brain cells. Even though I was 18 at the time in a world of the 21 year old drinking age I did not have a problem. I had hair well down past my shoulders, pierced ear and at times a beard and mustache. YES, I did have hair at one point and time.;)

I think this is a great idea, I started at UWSP in 1985 and I graduated in 1995!! The 10 year plan!! One too many trips out to Dubay and to the Dewey marsh, and the heck with my 8 o'clock class when I could get out on Mission Lake for happy hour!! So lets keep this ball rolling and get some planning done!! Count me in!!

69 to 72. Stayed in Knutson and Steiner Halls. Partied at places that don't exist any more - It was 18 year old beer bars then. The Brat Barn, Pour House, Little Joe's, Dillons (5 cent tappers from 4 to 5). There was a strip joint west on 10 but I can't remember the name of it except that September Morn was the headliner alot. Lettered in cross country and track. Spent a lot of time in the Mead hunting. A get together would be good or else pick a 12 Apostles meeting we could all go to as a start.

I'm not sure I'm up for re-living the "glory days"... but I can tell stories... some of which include BLASTER's demise (heh heh).

I am a 1997 grad and think it is a great idea. I used to keep my boat at my apartment(the honeycombs) and get chewed out by the other residents that could never find a place to park. My buddy and i would have to take another resident out on occasion, maintain a spot. Lots of stops at Trackside for Schooners after fishing. I live/grew up in Rapids, so alot of stops at Rusty's on the way to and fro. Some of the best times were our weekly fooseball tourneys at Buffys or silo night at Ellas(though the ball usually got stuck in some sticky beer on the table). I really preferred the music and the glass table out at Witz end. Saw Paul Black and the FLip Kings there and was mezmerized by his slide guitar several times. Was able to talk HollyRocks in WI Rapids into having them play the night of my graduation party which was really special.

i would love to see something started for alum. In the mean time, as secratary Treas. of the Consolidated Musky CLub in WI Rapids I would like to invite you guys to our spring meeting this year. We already have several Pointers as members, and would love to have some more. We raise and stock the River from the Point area down to Petenwell. We hold a spring meeting every year at CERA park on highway P near Point, and would love to see you guys there. The cost of membership is $5.00 per year and $4.00 and dish to pass at the spring and fall feeds at CERA. We give away tons of lures(custom and production), a few rods, reels, and refreshments are provided. We hold two outings per year, one weekend outing in the Minoqua area in June, and a one day WI River outing in fall. We plan to do another outing this year either on Green Bay, or Petenwell in July as well. If you guys would like an app. drop me an email at [email protected]. I will send you an agenda for meetings, outings raising/buying fish, and stocking. We could meet up and talk about expanding from there. Would love to see you guys this spring!!!

Some more blasts from the past- Morey's Bar and Fill's Bar (famous for 25 cent quarts). And can't forget the 50 degree party every year at Iverson Park. Cops were kinder back then. Not sure how the brain survived losing all those brain cells.
Might help explain how I was able to live in a tent for a whole year out at Jordan Park and then moved 'up' the following year to an uninsulated farm house in the middle of the Dewey Swamp.

ghoti, I think I remember someone staying in a tent in Jordan on the East side of the Plover by the golf course. Was that you?

Johnnie were you the Siasefi that stayed upstairs on the corner next to Steiner?

How about Kaz's L Bar by Rosholt? We wore the Hocky game out. Kaz later owned the Shindig in Mosinee.

Awesome responses on this so far. What started out as a "wouldn't it be cool to get some students and alumni together" conversation with MercKid over the weekend has really taken off beyond our imagination.

Let's keep thinking about this and if you know of any past or present Pointers out there who don't frequent message boards and might not see this, send me a PM with their contact info so we can put together a list of folks who might be interested. We've got a pretty good list started so far... Or just give them my email: [email protected]

I'll be at New London as will MercKid, PointerPride, and BrianSwenson. I'll be wearing some sort of UWSP shirt or jacket and an Evinrude hat so pull me aside if you want to talk about this a little more in person. It will also help to put some names with faces.

Not sure exactly what will come of this but we will do something....and any thoughts or ideas you might have are welcome to get this off the ground.

BTW....UWSP student from '94 - '99 graduating with a history degree, minors in Psych and Women's Studies (not kidding there...but it hasn't helped one bit). Went off to grad school for two years and returned to Point in '01 and have been working on campus ever since.

Thanks again...the response has been incredible.

Buddy, stayed on the west side of the river, right in the park. No golf course out that way. I believe it was 67-68 school year. Even had an article in The Milwaukee Journal about us. Interesting year- guess that's why I enjoy motel sleeping as opposed to tent camping these days.

As Ulbian mentioned I will be at the New London show and would like to meet as many Alumni Pointers as possible! I to will have some kind of Point apparal on, either a hat or a sweatshirt, so if you see me stop by and introduce yourself. I will probably be with the rest of the Point crew so I'm sure you will recognize us.

Here is my email for any ideas that you may have. The Point guys here have been thinking about things but would like some input by you guys. E-mail any to me at [email protected].

But this is great to see all the interests in doing this, lets try keep moving forward with idaes and others that don't frequent this board!

If had had a legal musky boated for every $2.50 cover I spent on Thursday night at Buffy's, I'd be number one all time in Muskies, Inc. rankings! How many of you recall the world renowned "Big Moon Saloon" or Chet's Friendly Bar, home of the best pickled eggs in the world? For any one interested, I did catch a undersize musky in Scheekle Reserve Lake on a Mepps #5 and also landed a 40"er below the Dam in town casting a Rebel Craw fishing Smallies. I was there from '83 to '88, and have many fond memories of watching Terry Porter play, Dick Bennett coach, etc etc.

Too bad I live in Ohio, or I would be interested in fishing the event. Steve Heiting, Mark Gostisha, and Kenny Jackson (friends of mine), all attended UWSP too.

The common Pointer theme for stumpjumpers, drinking, and spending time in the woods and waters when you should have been in class. Spring grades for me needed to be secured by early April, after that it was the spillway, DuBay, Tommorow river, Nelsonville, Hwy Q, City Dam, Mill Creek, Sunset Lake. Used to hunt Dewey Marsh for grouse and woodcock and the occasional beatamoor in the fall, great hunting around the pine planatation, with the woodcock right out in it. Two degrees largely wasted, but precious hunting and fishing stuff with a 20" stream brown one of my top accomplishments. Caught a pile of pike under Du Bay dam on shiners under a bobber, great fun, and a big bunch of walleyes under there when they were letting water out. Stayed up there one year for Easter Break and hit the walleye run right on the nose. Cranking rapalas under the dam in the honey hole along the willows, and landing fish after fish, or anyway that is the way I remember it now. Always disappointed I couldn't connect on a 20 lb northern or an 8 lb walleye.
