Anybody have any good or bad experiences or comments on reconditioned Minn Kota trolling motors. I am looking to purchase a new motor and was curious as to whether it is worth saving $200 - $300 on a reconditioned verse buying new.

I got one at http://www.trollnmotors.com/ and haven't had a problem. I got a Minn Kota Maxxum w/ 72 lb. thrust. I think I've had it the last 4 seasons. It still runs great.

The Maxxum I got from that site was $250 cheaper than BPS.

Bob,

Contact the Mike at Props Ahoy, he'll steer you in the right direction. They're one of the few MinnKota Service Centers in SE Wisconsin.

I bought a recon Auto Pilot that had all kinds of problems to begin with, the Auto Pilot would make the head spin around at about 10rpm and the seal in the motor was shot so it would spay water all over when it was in the stowed position. I took it to the local warranty center and they fixed it up and it has worked great ever since.

I have a 65# Maxxum tiller on my 14'er. The "mother board" went bad TWICE and both times it was replaced for free under warranty. Would have been very expensive otherwise, I think. You might want to check on that. Ask Al Warner (Essox Maniac) with a PM he may have an informed opinion. He's an electric sort of guy, you know.
