So, I'm sharpening hooks this winter, and I have a few 5/0 iron hooks that are rusty because they were around some road salt (don't ask).

Anyways... is there a way to take the rust off?

Thanks.

Replace them. Why take a chance? If they've been around salt. thay are probably pitted besides rusty.
I have lot's of 5/0 Mustads that I'm willing to part with.
PM me if you need a "care package".

Replace them. And after you sharpen your new hooks, paint the exposed metal with a (red) permanent marker to prevent corrosion.

Red permanent marker ayyyy? Does that last for a while? pretty neat idea, kind of sick of hooks rusting after it rains out and all your stuff gets wet, not to mention being fished and put away wet. Red though.

You know those little packets of silica gel #*#* you get in the box when you buy a camera or a new pair of shoes? I toss them all in my tackle box along with those rust inhibitor strips. So far it really seems to work pretty well and keeping my hooks from rusting.

A little WD-40 and a rag can work wonders. I don't know about the salt thing though, you might wanna just replace those ones. I have tryed sharpie on hooks before but it's a pain and then it bleeds all over your bait and will ruin it. Whenever my hooks rust, I just sharpen them
