Location: MPLS, MN | Does adding split rings to your reef hawgs affect the action in any way? I only ask because it would make sense they put them on in the first place but since they don't it made me wonder if that's the reason. I lost a fish at the boat last year and I think it used the leverage from the hook and bait to free itself. |

| Others may dispute this, but every time that I had to cut the hooks off of a Reef Hawg, it killed or greatly impeded the action.
Then again, I liked Reef Hawgs that weren't split, moved side to side with regularity, and finding those was hard to do. Guys that soak them, split them and do whatever will undoubtedly have differing opinions. I only have 3 Reef Hawgs left of the dozens that I bought, because they are the ones that work well. All of them are barbless, so I won't have to cut the hooks.

| I agree with Beav on this one.Putting split rings on a Reef Hawg is a no no.Aside from altering the action, the swinging hooks make it more difficult to keep weed free when working through the junk.Behold the power of the Reef Hawg! Steve |

Location: north central wisconsin | agreed. If split rings were a better option, Mike would put them on at the production shop. Good quick fix while out fishing, but I always re-cotter them when I get home. |

Location: MPLS, MN | Thanks guys,
darn, I have 3 Reef Hawgs and I put split rings on one of them over the winter out of boredom. Should have asked first. Is there a way to re-put them on without split rings? Or once they are off they're off? |

| You can remedy the situation by getting some cotter pins from your local hardware store, or order some from Thornes. Steve |

| The ONLY time I'll put a spit ring on a Reef Hawg, if if I just can't get it to work, no matter what I do. Soak it, weight it, trim it. Sometimes I will try a split ring on the front, and it will fianlly work OK. If it won't, I get rid of it. I have about 6 that work great for me, out of probably 50 that I have owned. It wasn't until I had bought the first 30 or so, that I learned to never buy one without putting in in a tank first. I'd never put a split ring on the hooks. Re-cotter as mentioned. |
