It is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you know that little Mason Oberfoell passed away this morning, February 20th in his Mom's and Dad's arms. Thank you all for your prayers and contributions. The muske community is a generous and thoughtful bunch. Little Mason is in a place now free of any pain and full of God's love.

Little Mason Oberfoell, the son of Adam and Cheri Oberfoell has been through quite a battle the last 6 months...for his life. Born 15 weeks early, Mason has put up an incredible fight since his 1lb 8 oz body was born into this world.
Besides his family, Adam's number one passion is muskie fishing, and is a fellow Capital City Muskies Inc, member. I was in the boat with Adam and his Dad on Lake Vermilion the day he found out that Mason was going to be delivered almost 4 months early. Imagine being 8 hours away from your family in a time like this. The family could use some prayers during this time. There is also a fundraiser in Dubuque, IA on April 1st. Additionally, the Oberfoell's family has also instituted a great idea- a cookbook of recipes from friends and family for $15.00 and all proceeds go to Mason. As many of today's medical treatments are not covered, any help would be appreciated.

Benefit for Baby Mason Oberfoell

Date: Saturday April 1, 2006
TIME: 2-10 PM, Live Auction at 4:00
Location: Peosta Rec Center, 7892 Burds Rd.
Peosta IA 52068

Food, Music, Raffles, Silent Auction

The Story:
Mason was born 15 weeks premature weighing 1 LB. 8 OZ. on August 17, 2005. He has many medical complications including a hole in his heart, pneumonia, cysts on his brain, and chronic lung disease. Mason was finally able to come home after being hospitalized for 4 ½ months. He came home on oxygen, a monitor, feeding tube and several medications. After only two days of being at home, he stopped breathing. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. Due to the use of the medications to keep him alive, he lost circulation in his left leg and has 3rd degree burns on his right leg. Mason had to have his left leg amputated below the knee and the toes amputated on his right foot. He had another surgery today to fix a block in his intestines, and a brain scan today has revealed more damage than anticipated where more unpaid medical expenses may arise in a facility.

The Contact Info:
There is a special cookbook available for a $15 donation. All donations would be greatly appreciated. The young family has many medical expenses. Anyone wishing to make donations, purchase cook books, possibly donate items for the silent auction, to help this young family. Please contact his aunt Robin Breiner, at [email protected]
Also donations and cook book purchases can be made at the above email Or Thru pay pal to [email protected] just make the subject “baby mason” or “baby mason cookbook" or "raffle tickets" put you personal info in the comment box for the tickets to be filled out and be sent to you.

I have read other threads of fellow muskiefisherman in need of prayers and the like. I hope you have a prayer left for my friend too.

MuskieFIRST members are among the most generous of souls I have ever encountered and I truly EXPECT that we all pitch in and help. Everyone should be buying a cookbook, I know me and Nikki will be in a few moments. A few years ago we took Ashton in our generous arms and made a huge difference in a little boy's life, we now have another chance to do so.

Reasons why YOU should buy a cook book:
-most lures are how much? this is $15!
-you know you like good food, buy a cook book, then you have more good food.
-think about your lures that you have that are collecting dust, if you dont have the $15, you might think of selling a few, and buying that book.
-if this where you, and your child was in need, do you think your muskie brothers would come to your aid? I know mine would.

If can, buy a book. If you cant, sell 2 lures, and you can then buy a book. There is no excuse for not.

Most EXCELLENT reply Slamr; I well remember the days of old on this board when peeps would offer mental/physical/spiritual support to those in need at the drop of a hat for no other reason other than the fact that another person was hurting, and I bet nothing's changed...

We will definitely keep them in our prayers, and will also be helping out with a donation. I couldn't imagine being in that situation. With all of the prayers and people thinking about their family, I'm sure the best will come.

I will be buying a cookbook...I wish I could donate more money, but my youngest was born with hearing loss and none of her needs are covered by insurance. What I can donate is musky equipment and lures.

Slamr or Steve is there any way that we can organize an auction here on Muskiefirst? I would be willing to donate my time to help in any way that is possible. All I have to offer is musky stuff...it probably would not bring as much money if I donate it to the auction in Iowa as it would here on the First. We should all do whatever we can to help this young family out.

Mason, Adam and Cheri our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear about Mason. I could not imagine losing one of my boys. Mine and my family's prayers go out to the family of Mason. God bless you and give you strength to deal with this. I know that Mason is in heaven looking at his parents and not wanting them to be so sad in this time. Fact is he could not be in better hands than those of our Lord.

For those of you who haven't read the story take a moment to do so.....Adam and Cheri are two of the nicest people you ever want to meet. Adam fished the PMTT trail for a I think a couple years and is a darn good fisherman.....please check out the Kly Auction site and help if you can....all this trama to this family has not only caused significant emotional stress on the family but has also left them with some big financial burden.

Thanks to all that have donated time and money.

God Bless.

Cory
