All, I'm looking for recommendations for a bow mount depth finder. My interests are good clear graphics with accurate depth and water temps. I just modified my boat (runabout) with a front casting deck and trolling motor. I now am in the market for some electronics up front but I have no working knowledge of this type equipment. Any pointers in terms of what to look for or recommdations for a make/model would be greatly appreciate. Looking to keep it things under $200 if possible but will pay more if your recommdnations support it.

Jerry

Look at a Humminbird Matrix 17, around 180 bucks. 320x320 resolution and 300w output. If you have a handheld GPS, you can buy a cord and run it through the unit, or by the optional gp antennae.

Remember no matter the unit, your transducer will be deeper in the water than a hull mount. Many units should have a way to adjust this so your depth isn't off.

I have a Lowrance color graph on the bow vs a b/w on the dash. When I'm up front casting, the color unit is so visible compared to the b/w. Especially when you are looking down at the unit as opposed to straight at it on the dash, the color screen just provide better visibility. Also, if you can afford it, get a unit with GPS capabilities. This was HUGE for me as I hate turning the dash unit around to see marked waypoints. My old unit was the Lowrance 68c. Small screen but had built in GPS antenna and color and did the job just fine. Don't know if there is a unit under 200$ though with color & GPS...
