For things like Ebay, I have set up a paypal account (www.paypal.com) which allows buyers to electronically send you their payment. For those who wish NOT to use paypal, it is money order or cashier's check. In cases where Money order/cashier's check is used, I ship the item once I recieve the payment in the mail. It would be a very RARE occation that I would accept a personal check, just because if the check doesn't clear, it costs ME money due to it bouncing...and I would rather not pay for something that should not happen in the first place. This pretty much guarantees that doing business with unknown people is safe and hassle free.

Shipping items, I usually use USPS and do my own packaging. Very easy, and very reliable.

Good luck!!

I like postal money orders. Makes it easy to cash the money order and ship the bait at the same time. It's also nice because you are guaranteed your money, no worrying about a check bouncing or being placed on hold. I gave up on paypal a long time ago. It works great until you get screwed.

If I am not intruding too much, what happened to you through paypal?

I've been using it for about 5 years now and have not had a single problem...

personally, i don't like how they lock your money up at the first sign of unwarranted whiney crap from a buyer that didnt' get insurance on an item you ship them when insurance wasn't an option...

if you get paypal, get paypal verified, and push your buyers to do the same b4 buying from you....covers you a little more...

any complaint and they will freeze your account (or at least the funding to cover a reversal in the buyers favor, and you'll get screwed.) they'll even put you at negative.

personally, in the future, if someone won't agree to insure a postal service item worth more than 30 bux, i'm relisting, and also stating the same in my auction...i'll eat a few bux on a lure, but not anything past 30 bux.

If you are shipping one or two baits, ship in a plain box, first class. It is half the price of priority mail, and will get there at the same time. I always ask for Postal $ orders , if I donot know the person, but they are faking them, also.

depends on what I am shipping as to what I use. Priority, UPS, Fedex and DHL are all good..I prefer going with the best combo of fast and cheap with shipping and I avoid 1st class, sometimes as quick as priority sometimes much slower.. as for payment, paypal, moneyorder or personal check, but check must clear first before I ship unless I know and trust you.

i do the same: ship first class if i have a box since it's cheaper and most often just as fast. the postmaster will tell you expected delivery dates, so i compare and decide based on that.
i'll sometimes pay the extra (usually about $2 difference) to ship priority mail for the convenience of grabbing a self-sealing box as i walk in the post office. just remember to bring some newspaper to pack around the item you're shipping.
i've occasionally used UPS, i find it's more expensive for smaller items, but often a good option on larger items as long as they're "standard" sized.

i really like paypal, especially when i'm buying something: convenient, instant money transfer so i don't have to mail a check, and i can securely deposit/withdraw money from my bank account.
when selling i try to be conscientious about shipping quickly and have always had satisfied buyers.

as always with anything done online, just be smart about Phishing scams - remember that PayPal and eBay will NEVER email you requesting account, password, or bank information. if you get something like that, it's a fake and you should report it to them.

To make a long, complicated story short, the buyers paypal account was setup through a debit card on his checking account. Paypal withheld my money because there some sort of problem with the the guys checking account. Some sort of stop payment or charge back with his paypal purchases. The money is either gone or locked away by paypal. The problem is paypal did absolutely nothing about it. It became a paper chase and phone tag with paypal. They did absolutely nothing to get my money back. Paypal works great as long as there isn't a problem. The catch is, if you have a problem, there is noone to talk to. Try finding a phone number for paypal. And then try to get a hold of someone that can fix the problem.

Hi,

PayPal for international payments. Lightning fast and easy, no extra costs. For sellers they have to pay fees. In Europe we can pay with wire transfer, using IBAN and BIC (bank indentification code).

Shipping items from the US to Europe i prefer USPS Airmail Letter Post and Airmail Parcel Post. Less expensive and pretty fast.

I ship everything UPS. The 1st $100 is insured automatically. I don't have to worry if someone does not choose insurance, as I have chosen for them.

I accept paypal payments and do UPS through paypal.

When I was self-employed, I used UPS to ship frequently. In that time, they lost one item. I had insured it and filed a claim and was paid after the 30 day waiting period.

For me, the buyer is the one paying for the shipping, so the cost is not a big deal.

I use paypal to buy stuff but would not use it for selling stuff. I sold something for $105 and they took out $2.50(guessing 2.5% and then they charged me $2.00 for a check to be sent to my house. I use only Postal M.O., I have done tons of deals and only lost 1 M.O. in the mail. I had to wait 60 days(after 2 weeks I sent the guy a check and waited) filled out a form and paid $6(other M.O.'s can be $12/$15) and because nobody cashed the M.O.in the 60 day wait period, I was send the $75(full payment). I always save rod tubes and especially PVC tubes(they might be alot heavier) but they cost the same to ship rods(the long tubes are considered oversized= 20lbs) . I don't know with the new rates but at Post office it usually cost around $12/$16to ship, last time it was $8 because I went into the big city were they were too lazy to measure the length + diameter. It has to be less than 84/88 inches otherwise it is oversized and costs around the $15 depending how far it goes. I think they take into account zones and from Midwest- California is a few $$ more to ship. I would guess about 20% more. Always put a paper attached to rod or inside box with your name and address on in case something happens to outside of box. I usually cover address and return address with clear packing tape. Never buy insurance for baits> It is like $1.50 per $50 insurance and its a real hassle to collect. That means they would have to lose at least 1 in 17 boxes for you to get your money's worth. I have sent probably 100/150 boxes and NEVER had a problem. I would suggest insurance with rods if you mail in heavy cardboard tube. I have had 1 post office tube and 1 ups tube come with top crinkled off. Both times rod was in fine shape(1 bent guide). Always write NO CONVEYORS/FRAGILE about 3 times on tube. Also NEVER use those free triangle boxes at post office that you tape together. Also use alot of duck tape on ends of tubes because sometimes the bottoms get a little ragged from them draggin tubes around. Good Luck- There's alot of great deals out there. I always give a 3 day return privilege on reels if they are not in mint condition. Roy

I ship everything USPS Priority Mail w/ Delivery Confirmation.
Reason #1, I can get hundreds of self-sealing boxes dropped right at my door..........that's where the good part ends.
I know some of you have had great luck with the USPS, but last year, they "lost" 9 packages and confiscated one that I still haven't got back because a hook point stuck out the side. One of the boxes contained all 4 of the custom 10"ers that I made. Delivery confirmation doesn't do crap except protect you from people saying that they never got a package when they did. All of my lost packages were the same.....Package left Cudahy PO-Arrived Milwaukee PO- Left Milwaukee PO-----location unknown. They don't track it, it just tells you that somebody received it. I'm beginning to think that there is some SOB fishing Pewaukee with a box full of my lures.
I'll continue to use them because they are reasonable, but might offer tracking to all buyers for extra cash to cover it. I'm tired of replacing "lost parcels."

If anyone is having problems with hook points and such poking a hole in the side of a shipment, do what I have learned to do and that is purchase some appropriate sized tubing, I use the stuff sold on Ebay, and put a small piece on the end of each hook point. I know some fishermen don't like the struggle to get it off but if you don't push it down too much over the barb, it comes off easily and doesn't go through the side of a cardboard mailing box. I have been doing this over 3 yrs so far and never have I had a complaint from the buyer nor the shipping handler.

I ship a lot of stuff in from the U.S. and a few things over to mainland Europe, from the 'States I really like USPS, never had anything go astray.

I never ship baits with hooks on and always request thats how to ship to me, baits without hooks pack smaller and easier, get no hook damage and cannot do anyone any harm, the hooks simply get packed in a lure or hook box with the baits. I have had a few boxes arrive with hooks sticking out of the box in the past and had to stop my postie picking up a box to pass to me as there was a 4/0 hanging out the side, she is very good to me and I don't want her snagged up.
