| Went to a poolside demo tonight in Alexandria, MN. It was put on by the local Muskie inc. chapter. Luke Ronnestrand, Brad Hoppe and Bret Erickson demonstrated some of the new baits for '06. Luke’s Holcombe tackle has some awesome new top waters that really looked good. He showed his "water humper" which is a new globe bait. He has two versions, one has a squirrelly tail, and both of these baits really moved some water and had a great sound. He also re-designed his tsunami, it has a larger head and it had a sweet metallic sound. He also re-designed his double tail stomper, he made it a little thinner than before and the sound is much better. Brad Hoppe showed off his double cowgirls, these things are awesome, they are a bucktail style bait but made of a kind of tinsel instead of hair. The best part of these baits are the blades, he uses two huge colorado blades that push water all over the place, the vibration is sick. He also has it in Marabou, that moves all over. I was impressed with the in-line llungen also, that thing burns. Pretty fun thing to go to, difficult though, just makes me want the summer faster. | |

Location: Ogden, Ut | I think the maribou one was actually a XXX - a new big bruiser from Muskie Mojo Tackle. They look to be a real winner for those of you who like big baits. I got one in the Kly auction, from my point of view - they're kinda scary! Absolutely huge.

| Nope. This one is made by Brad Hoppe’s Musky Mayhem tackle. It is called a marabou cowgirl. The xxx wasn’t at the demo

| The poolside demo was a lot of fun. Thank you Alexandria Chapter for inviting us to show off all the new stuff for '06.
We did throw the XXX (Brad Hoppe actually threw it) during the poolside, but beforehand we got a chance to play around with a lot of prototype baits and Musky Mayhem does have a Marabou Double Cowgirl that they have been working on. Still a big bait, but not nearly as big as the XXX, but a lot "puffier" in and out of the water.
Lots of new baits again this year--and some really 'fishable' baits. We all buy baits during the winter and then realize once summer comes that the bait really doesn't fit what we're doing. A lot of the baits for this year will cover a lot of different situations and are very fisherman-friendly.
The 5 new Holcombe baits are nice. The new Tsunami is LOUD for a globe-style bait and makes a awesome sound. I got big hopes for this bait this summer after dark. Luke also brought back the LOWRider Mid (which is actually the original size of the first ones made).
I really like the new Slammer 7"Deep Shad crankbaits. Talk about versatility and they have a wide swimming action at ALL speeds. You can actually crank it dead slow and use it as a topwater or you can drive it down and bash rocks with it. It has a big, round lip on it that is as snag resistant as it gets. You can also rip and twitch it.
If this year is like last year, the Llungen In-line will get a workout in my boat. Last year was a definite 'blade' year with burners, like the In-line, early and slow baits--particularly the Double Cowgirl--taking over from mid-August on. The In-line has virtually no resistance and puts out a ton of flash. This bait is made to cover water.
The Fudally Twist is the other one that I can't wait to put to use. You have to see one of these things in the water. I will have one at the St.Cloud Poolside Demo to show. The baits aren't exactly how Mike wants them yet, so they are not available until he is totally satisfied. I am guessing they will be perfected and available around April.
If you missed the poolside in Alexandria, MN, we have another one coming up on the 21st of February in St.Cloud for the Muskies Inc chapter there. I believe it starts around 6:30pm. Hopefully someone can post where it will be or I will once they let me know.
Thanks again,
Brett Erickson
