Questions About the Deep Diving Grandma?

I recently got a close look at the 6” deep diving Grandma. It looks awesome, but I have one concern. I have no experience with the new Grandmas, but with the old ones even though they where one of my favorite baits I had chronic problems with the lips falling out, or breaking.

My question is with the deep diver is the lip anchored into the bait in any way other than just glue. The pull eye is molded into the lip and I would hate to trust a glued plastic joint when fighting a 40, 30 or even 20 pounder. And if the lip would pull out it would sure leave a mess of hooks in the fish’s snout.

Any info on how that lip is attached to the bait sure would help ease my mind. I don’t plan to buy any of these until I get this info. They sure do look sweet though.

hi. i too like you have had much exp with the old ones. and troubles to go along with them.
the new ones however are starting to be a favorite of mine. they hold up a lot better and work a whole lot smother and can be work to variouss depths with very little effort. i would venture to say that your worries however legit they may be could safely be put to rest. just put the bait to the test like all the rest. every lure we buy has a fraction of dubt with it at first but if we hemm and haaw with them where will we be nowhere there is a risk in every thing we buy. and heck at this point whats one more lure going to hurt us.

good luck.

Steve normally I would agree with you and just buy it. And if I was just worried about the lip breaking or coming out that’s what I would do. Buy one and try it out. However with the pull eye located IN the lip this could cause more problems. Like leaving a double set of 2/0 trebles in a future world record, or worse yet loosing a world record because the lip pulls out. Not likely, but I easily could loose a 30 pounder that way.
