| I won a little money on the Patriots last night and it's burning a hole in my pocket! Was thinking of getting another reel. I am torn between Abu(c3-c5) and Calcutta's. Are the Calcutta's worth the extra $200? I love Musky fishing but realistically only get out 7-8 times/yr. I just don't know if I can justify the additional cost for the Shimano. Thanks,Doc |

| C-5... three for the price of one. |

|
| Persinally I don't think they are worth the 200 bones, and I know many disagree. I had nothing but problems with the 2 400's I had(just sent one of them back in last week for repairs to the instant anti for the 3rd time). I'd buy 2 c3's and be comforted that I just bought 2 nice reels for the price of an overpriced one. Can't speak for everyone, but the hours I've put on my ABU's, have proven them to be outstanding products. I have a 200 dollar Morrum too, and am not sold on it either. |

| C-3's, C-5's...I love 'em and you can't beat their customer service. For the money, if you're only fishing skies less than 20 times a year, you won't regret buying Abus.

| I have been using Abu's for more than 25 years, without any major problems. I have a few that are more than 10 years old and they have never needed any repairs.
For the money, they are...(in my opinion) the best out there. :) |

| Abu without a doubt. You might look at the CB series that Cabelas sells. I have one and just love the thumbar on the big reel. They come with 6.3:1 gears, but you can have that switched to 5.3:1 easily enough if you don't like the high-speed retrieve. |

| Any opinion on the Diawa Millionaire? |
|

|
| I prefer the calcutta 251 over an abu 5501 C3 for jerkbaits and larger lures. For medium lures and crankbaits, I use the abu 5501 C3. Mine was broken after seven days of little use (just trolling and small jerkbaits of about 40g). the brake-beads were worn! The old ones were a whole lot stronger if you ask me. |

| Divani, which reel broke after 7 days? Thanks |

|
| the abu, when trying to fish a glider of about 60g after that trip, I just tapped through my drag which was fully engaged! I couldn't move that darn glider even if my life depended on it. Now if that would have been a pike, I never would have been able to land it!! |

| Used nothing but Abu 5501 and 6501 while I lived in Alaska for 4 years. They took an awful lot of abuse and still have never had a problem. I've had huge kings rip off 150 yards of line without in a flash with no grief. I bought a Calcutta 251 when they first came out, what, 6 years ago or so. Have used this extensively including trolling with Trophymuskie at 9,000 mph and it still works great. But the action and smoothness of drag and everything else has me picking up the Calcutta most of the time....the abus are my second choice....never had a problem with them but the Calcutta is just a much smoother overall reel. But if price is your primary concern go with the Abus...they are good, tough reels.
My Miserable Opinion,

| Take a look at Garcia's "Big Game" series. I use the 6500CL and 6500HCL and they are outstanding. Not priced as high as a calcutta, but more than a regular 6500C3, C4, or C5.
I've fished with Garcias for many years, and they work!

| If your not going to be fishing that much, I would definitely get an Abu. Great reels that hold up very well. I've had my Calcutta for a year now and love it. No problems at all. Don't buy the Corsair though! I had the original greyish/silver model, that sucked, and I also had the newer gold model which sucked as well. The levelwind broke on both and never seemed to work very well again even after I had them fixed.

| I guess I would have to agree with the majority here but only because you don't get out a lot. Abus are good solid reels for the $$$ no doubt. However, I have a tournament partner that is 60 years young and has fished for almost everything with scales. When he talks I listen. I introduced him to the Calcuttas about three years ago. His statement this past Fall when asked about reels: There is only one reel to buy, Calcutta. If you can afford them, this is the way to go. I sure wish I got paid to say so, but I don't. I just use them, hard.

| I bought a C3 two years ago and I like it. Bought a morrum last year and I love it. It is a much smoother reel. I feel the need to buy another rod and reel this year for some reason and I may just go with another morrum. Would like to hear more imput though. What does a calcutta cost? |

| Doc,
I agree with DocEsox. I have plenty of 5501 C3's as well as a Calcutta 251 and 151. I always find myself going for the Calcutta's because they are a much smoother - no question about it. I couldn't justify the price either - I got my Calcutta's as X-mas presents.
If you are looking for one reel - then get the Calcutta. I like the smaller diameter ones for casting all day long and flexibility for different situations.
If you are looking for good, solid, durable reels for a great price, then get two of the 5500 C3's for the price of one Calcutta - then ask for the Calcutta for X-mas, birthday or whatever you can finnagle (LOL)! |

| If you want a tuff real, get a Penn 965, won't break and is really smooth. I love mine.
Go to www.srmo.com and they have them for only 159.99.
I also feel they have great service, I sent it into Penn once for cleaning, I had it back within a week!
Good luck with your decision.

If you want a anti reversre then send your reel to The Sportsmans Repair shop

| I can't believe that no one suggested Shimano Calcutta 400's. I have two and love them, I even plan to buy one more. For me they are the best reels on the market. I prefer them to the small ones due to the line capcity they can handle. Its just my opinion, but if you want the best it's the Calcutta 400. |
