Anyone using the Ambassadeur Professional Series 5600C? I got two of them at the Walleye Expo this weekend, rebuilt, for $44 apiece. They seem like really nice reels, comments?[:sun:]

I have somehting that may be the same thing. I got the abu garcia vantage plus 5000c for $50 w/ a a medium heavy abu rod from walmart. They also sell the vantage XL 5000c for $65, same thing but the reel is green and the rod is 6'6" instead of 6' The reel hasn't given me any problems other than the handle and star drag bending. Can't beat it for the price.

Sworrall: They are great Bass reels that should work fine for Musky fishing, they just don't have the line capacity of the 6500 series. They are an upgrade from the old 5000C (state of the art when it was manufactured) reels (I have one). $47 - $50+ price range. Back in the early 70s I was very serious about Bass fishing. A reel of that quality cost more in the 70s than they do now. No bells and whistles, just a simple quality reel as far as I'm concerned.

Schuler: As I mentioned above, the 5000C was the best Bass reel of it's type from the 60s (maybe even earlier) up until just a few years ago when it was replaced with the 5500C3. I have both and still use them for Bass AND Musky fishing. It's a quality reel and as far as I'm concerned, other than line capacity, the equal of the 6500 C3 reels (which I also have several of).

These are the wide spool, silver colored lower profile models that have the machined aluminum side plates and reel body, instant anti-reverse, and clicker. The model number is S5600C Professional Series. This help?

Steve- I bought a 6600 series in that style about 10 years ago. Have had no problems whatsoever. Wish I would have bought a few more. Don't know why they stopped making them. Love the low profile and they seem to be smoother and quieter than other Abu's.

Steve, are these a round reel and they look like a silver tournament reel with a C3 style levelwind? If so i had one. It was a good reel, the only thing I did not like about it was the levelwind disengaged on the cast which caused some uneven spooling and that my dad constantly bitched about the fact it was a bass reel to the point I just said f-it and sold it at the pewaukee show to a guy who was going to musky fish with it even though my dad insisted to the guy it was a bass reel and not a musky reel.

I had no problems with the reel.

Yes, those are the reels, but in a wide spool version. There were the narrower spool versions there too.

Sounds like I will enjoy these.[]

Steve, I had a wide spool version too. A great reel, the level wind stays engaged on a cast but they are a good 1/2" wider than a 6500 because of the thick left side plate. It was too wide for me, would fatigue my left hand from palming. It you don't palm should be no problem, unless you have gorilla hands.
