| I'm taking a vacation this July, and would like to take it on some PRIME Musky waters.
But since this is a Vacation I need a good camp ground, with good showers, and electric and water (I'll be tent camping so the electric/water doesn't have to be right on 'that' site.
Also a place that has a few other things to see, and do around it. My wife, and 2 year old son will be coming. I figure that I can head out in the morning and evening to fish and we'll do our family thing in-between.
Also I'd like a VERY good shot at big numbers, and a big fish would be nice too. This is my first year after a 12-15 year hiatas though so I'm looking for numbers.
Also would like to find water that could produce fish without hiring a guide. I figure they will be either booked or to expensive.
So where is the best place to go?
I have Eagle River area and LOTW on my mind.
Thanks for the suggestions. |

| There is a great campground in Door County on Sturgeon Bay I have stayed at with nice showers. From there you can explore several areas along Green Bay. There is also a campground on Big Lake just north of the Manitowish Chain in Vilas County that I have stayed at, great location but no showers and very rural. Both are in State Parks so you need a park sticker and then camping is a certain amount per night. A pretty place to camp are the islands on the Mighty Chip in Sawyer County, but again no showers. That is free and first come, first serve.
I haven't tried it but LOTW or Lac Seul would be great spots to camp with trophy fish. Houseboats can be rented there |

| Also I'd like a VERY good shot at big numbers, and a big fish would be nice too.
for a good shot at numbers without a guide for someone unfamiliar with the waters, i don't know that Green Bay, the Mani Chain, or the Chippewa Flowage would be real high on my list...
i'd suggest the Pike Chain near Park Falls as something worth looking into.
- good numbers of fish, decent size structure
- relatively easy waters to read and locate fish
- nearby to Park Falls and Mercer, easy drive to Minocqua for entertainment
- it's in the Chequamegon National Forest

(the Twin Lakes campground is nearby to Round, but may be more rustic than you described)
- the Moosejaw resort has camping with the "amenities" you're looking for, at reasonable rates.

a bit closer to Minocqua there's a decent campground on Big Arbor Vitae
- again, decent numbers of fish, some bigger ones
- close to many other lakes of all varieties
- campground with amenities, reasonable rates (but get's pretty booked up)

Location: Wausau/Phillips WI | Try the state campground on Crystal Lake just North of Minocqua and West of Sayner. Crystal does not have muskies but is perfect for the family as it has a great sandy beach around the whole lake and crystal clear water. You can trailer your boat and be on many lakes in 15-20 minutes. If you can't get in there try the campground at Star Lake. Has a small beach and is only a couple miles from Ballard which is a good numbers lake. Fish Star for a chance at a bigger fish.
The campground on Plum Lake is also worth a try.
All of these are close to many great musky waters and also vacation shopping in Minocqua, Eagle River, Sayner, St. Germain, and Boulder Junction.
If you choose one of these go to the Sayner Pub for pizza and try Blink and Bonnies for steak.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Since you mentioned Lake of the Woods (by definition: THE prime muskie waters), Red Wing Lodge on Sabaskong Bay has camping faciliities and the big fish you are looking for. I think there are other campgrounds around Nestor Falls, you can Google that area for their tourist bureau who can set you up with info. m |

| I agree with Buddysolberg. Several nice places mentioned there. If you don't mind not being on a musky lake Crystal is an excellent choice. I would also suggest you check on the campgrounds of the Nicolet National Forest. There's one on Kentuck which is by all definitions a good musky lake. It's close to Eagle River and there are plenty of area activities for the whole family. |

| I will probably think of a bunch more but for a nice private campground there is Lynne Anne's located on Big St. Germain. Feel free to contact me and I can stop by the chamber office and have them send you out a bunch of stuff from the area if you'd like. |
