Check this CRAP out ...... This is what really scared me ......

"Just like dogs and cats, fish feel pain, so if you wouldn't hook dogs through the mouth and drag them behind your car, you shouldn't hook fish through the mouth and drag them behind your boat," said Karin Robertson of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals"

Do the folks at PETA not understand that fish were put on this planet for mankind to eat? That they are indeed part of the food chain and a substantial part of sustaining life here on Earth as we know it?

Fish were put here for man to catch and eat. How they're caught isn't important. They're here for a reason.

Granted...we don't keep and eat Muskie....but....it's a fish, ie, part of the food chain nonetheless. Look up fish on the food chain and see where they fall. I don't see dogs and cats on the food chain list...granted...I'm sure there's some third world countries that probably do eat their dogs and cats...but..that's another topic of conversation for a different forum.

And in fact it has been proven that the fishes do NOT feel 'pain' as we do. They move away from discomfort like any other creature, but when injured do not have the capacity to react to the discomfort and 'feel pain' as mammals do.

PETA is primarily made up of folks who buy their meals, cook their meals, and live their lives in a world of concrete and steel. They've never seen a doe kick her starving fawn near to death to keep it from food she wants, have never seen a wolf take prey, a muskie attack a whitefish, or for that matter, much of ANY of the real world.

Those people are LOST ... very LOST !! Do they have real jobs or just go around whining about everything they see ?? I agree with Steve , let them sit in a tree stand for a month or 2 and see the way the outdoors takes care of itself !!

"Wanted: Ted or Alive". Without a doubt the best reality show in the world. Uncle Ted makes people kill chickens to eat, and they must also gut them, pluck or skin them, go through all the motions to get the chicken from a living, breathing thing to table fare.
I watched one chick grab the chicken and beat it's head against a rock and start tearing it apart. She even got a bonus when she found an egg in her chicken. I almost puked as I watch grown men hugging their chickens and petting them, but they all killed and grilled them in the end. Strange thing to eat meat, but never do the dirty work. Ted said it best when he said, "So, you get assassins to do the work for you. Well isn't the person who hires the assassin as guilty as the assassin?"
I think everyone who eats fish or fowl or beef or pork should have to "do it yourself" at least once in their life. I believe that they would come away with a brand new respect for the animals that they eat.
People always ask me how I can kill deer. Afterall, they are so cute. Well, I've been within feet of live deer and never been noticed, and watched how they act in their enviroment. How many of my accusers have ever even been in the woods? Hunters, though they kill animals, have more respect for the animals than any peta person. Why? Because they have been there, and have seen them, and have taken their lives. Hunters know animals more intimately than any tree hugger ever will, because we have their spirit in us.
People should worry more about people and less about whether a fish feels discomfort.
Do you think the guy sleeping under the overpass felt discomfort last night?

In my opinion...again..this is just my opinion....take it or leave it...but in my opinion:

This Politically Correct world and society that we live in today, is ultimately doing more harm than good in the long run. The world's just full of a bunch of softies anymore these days....

Fellows,

If they speak you have got to listen!!!!! Yes they are off the wall in how they think BUT and I say BUT they have $$$$$. Total Revenues is $29,309,246 and some big people supporting them. Just take one Pam Anderson. How many of you watched the roast of Pam Anderson. If you did you were in support of PETA. Pam would not do the roast unless Comedy Central donates a lot of money to PETA. One thing that PETA is responsible in doing away with the spring bear hunt in Canada. People over looked their power and one day there it is GONE!!!

I don't think that PETA understands that without the sportsmans groups, ie fisherman and hunters, there would be decreased income for state and federal economies, annnnnd the populations of the animals would be reduced due to no one giving a hoot on how the populations are sustained, or contributing funds via licenses or donations from clubs for stocking the fish. (not sure if this makes sense, but in my own little world it does)

I love the Madison piece.
Constitutional right to hunt and fish.
peta (I refuse to capatalize it) would have a tough time causing problems in many states who had the foresight to pass such amendments to protect sportsmen from groups like them. I don't care how much money they have, they would never be able to pull their stunts in a state that gets a vast portion of it's revenue from hunters and fishermen.
The spring bear hunt in Canada.......that was Canada's fault for not protecting itself from the bleeding hearts.
Most peta people are hipocrites anyway. They wear leather shoes, carry Gucci leather handbags and eat animal by-products. They put up a great front, and they have money. But when the $hit hits the fan, and we are forced to survive, those people will come begging us to help keep them alive, and we will. Because we don't put the lives of animals above the lives of humans.
Except big muskies that is.

You can't tell me fish don't get poked/stabbed eating other spiny fish. Is getting hooked traumatic and painful? Perhaps to a creature with an advanced nervous system.

Let's put this into persepctive here guys -- considering the complex nerve structures and our sense of touch -- what do you think hurts worse -- a 5/0 through your finger or in a fish's mouth?

I've been hooked. It kind of went like this:

Whoops, Oh sh*t. Uh oh, I hope it's not past the barb (that was a bit traumatic, I admit -- the thought of losing a perfectly good day on the water and spending it instead at a hospital? That would suck!)

Once I realized that it wasn't past the barb? I grabbed it and yanked it out. And after a few choice 4 letter words and a little bit of blood? Well, other than the presence of a band aid to remind me of how stupid I was, I'd have to say this:

Pain: (scale of 1 to 10) maybe 2. Annoying, but certainly no worse than any of the other thousand or so injuries I've had in my life

Trauma: I'll give that a 3, for the 5 seconds or so that it occurred to me that I might have to go to the hospital. But then there's always cute nurses at the hospital and they all tend to want to see injuries like that. Make that a 2.

Long term effects: Well... none other than I am more careful now. Certainly hasn't made me afraid to fish.

I've woken up in the morning with worse injuries after a night of drinking and not even remembered how I got them.

And I'm not even a fish...

One word for anyone thinking of joining PETA: make sure to never distribute pamphlets to the address of one Jim Slivinski.

Welcome to my world. I live in peta central, the peoples republic of new jersey(formerly from Minnesota). You can't even argue with these people. If you catch them in a lie or make a good point they just get louder and don't give you a chance to say another word. To many hunters and fisherman laid back when they started with the trapping saying it can't happen to us. Well surprise surprise it is. That being said there are still lots of sportsman that refuse to fight back. Makes you wonder. Pat

We have all seen it! I caught a smallmouth once and a muskie came behind it and grabbed on. We are not the only predators out there. Fish eat fish, ducks, seals, humans, and so forth. Life's way to short for this bull*****!!!!!

A couple years ago there was a poll on a muskie site that asked the biggest threat to muskie fishing in the future and my prdiction was PETA or animal rights groups. It will take awhile but they will have their way sooner or later

They feel pain? Yes, but as Mr. Worrall said, not like we do... They instinctually get away from it.

Secondly, if a peta member puts a 5/0 treble throught their upper lip and can pull as hard as a musky, I will join.

Here's some ammunition for you the next time you have to deal with anyone from PETA or their sympathizers. I have conversed with these people and I always tell them that the vegetables and fruit they eat are in great pain when they are ripped out of the ground or picked off a tree. They are being murdered because their life is being ended. They don't know what to say to that. Answer a fool according to his folly.

I wouldn't worry about this too much, folks. Several years ago I represented the Missouri Department of Conservation at the annual meeting of the state Conservation Directors of the Bass Anglers Sportsman's Society (B.A.S.S.) in Quincy, Illinois. We had an excellent speaker (sorry, I do not remember his name) who had studied both the demographics and the psychology of PETA members. His first point was that the vast majority of Americans (>95%) support fishing, even if they do not fish themselves; and that is unlikely to change. His second point was that many people who belong to PETA and other fringe groups do so because they are lonely and/or lack meaning in their lives. They seek the camaraderie that comes from fighting for a common cause alongside others. In such cases, the "cause" is unimportant. It is the "brothers in arms" relationship they crave with their fellow fighters for truth and justice. It's kind of sad, really.

After an excellent presentation and discussion, the B.A.S.S. Conservation Directors voted overwhelmingly to simply ignore PETA. That strategy minimizes controversy, thereby keeping the media disinterested, thereby keeping PETA off center stage unless they pay to be there. I think B.A.S.S. made a wise decision. I don't view PETA as a credible threat to the sport of fishing. If we're going to worry about something, let's worry about habitat deterioration, exotic species invasion, and excessive fishing pressure and/or harvest.
