| Night fishing can be great on the Fox Chain and the Madison Chain in May, June and July. The only problem is the floating weeds. If there hasn't been any wind for several days, it can make night fishing virtually impossible. You need to get on the water during light hours and check out you milk run to make sure it is fishable. If there are floating weeds all over, you might as well not even try. The frustration level you will reach will drive you bonkers!
The reason it is so good on both systems is because there is high pressure during the day time. I actually prefer the pre-daylight hours over the post sun down hours. The fish seem to rock more often just prior to the sun coming up. | |

| In Vilas and the rest of Northern WI night fishing can be some of the best time of bite during the season. Although the classic clear body of water is great place to start I believe the some of the stain body of waters produce as many fish as its clear counter parts. One key is to fish the lake at sunset and into the night, after the pleasure crafts have left for the day. For the most part I feel you can leave the water around midnight, unless there is a moon phase that you would like to stick around for. The nite bite can last well into the fall, I recall catching some mid 40 inch fish into the second weekend of October of years past.
