I sent Lowrance an email as to why they don't make it possible for 2 GPS units to be linked together so that when you punch in a waypoint for example it would transfer to the other GPS unit...here is their reply:

The more technical response would be that the NMEA 2000 Network is a
shipboard monitoring system for devices. It is not designed for
transferring trails or any other position points (waypoints and icons). Each
GPS product is receiving from the same satellite module, but is
processing that data individually, from the other units.

The Standard NMEA 0183 was designed for communication between
navigational devices. It will transmit position information in the form of a
trail and a waypoint position will only be shown as part of that
transmitted trail.

In answer to "Can this be done?'. Yes, it could be done. However, it
is unlikely, because this would require too much bandwidth. The same
applies to sonar. Each unit has its own transducer and processes its
own sonar returns. The Network will not handle the bandwidth that would
be required to share sonar between units.

Advancements in future technologies might make this possible in the
future. It is just not possible now.

I've called them with the same questions. ANd also why they can't network the systems so you don't have to buy a map chip for both the bow and dash units. I'm currently networking a LCX 17M & LCX 20c, anyone got any spare splitters, 120ohm terminators, or cables???
