The new Ambassadeur Record looks really nice, but i have only checked it out on-line. Have any of you tried it? For muskies, which one do you like? I like the RCN60, but 12.9 oz seems heavy. Also, some sites say the RCN60 is 5.3:1 and others say 6.3:1 ... which one is it? I prefer a 5.3:1.

In case you didn't see this review.

todd,
I recently recieved my RCN61 ( left hand ) reel and am anxious to use it. The RCN60 and the RCN60HC (high capacity spool and power handle) both have 5.3:1 gear ratio's. the RCN40 and 50 models have 6.3:1.

I'm kinda interested in these, too. Do you think the regular 60/61 will hold enough line? (145 yards of 14 lb doesn't seem like much.) I wonder if the HC would be a better bet?

While 145/14 doesn't sound like much line if you are using a super line you can get almost an entire 150yd. spool of 65lb. on one of these reels. If you are using mono I would suggest the HC otherwise either one will hold enough line for musky fishing. The standards spool will be lighter when filled with line for easier casting although I have never had to much of a problem casting when I am throwing musky baits!

This looks like a good reel with the classic look. Only time will tell if its more durable than the regular c-series

I just got a new Record 60 for Christmas, I think it will be a awesome reel. I know Chuck Nelson up in Rhinelander would be able to give you guys that are interested or any of you who want to know more about them information that you would like to know. Chuck actually works for Pure Fishing and has great knowledge on these reels. He can give you a a very informative opinion and an honest one.

Just got my new Ambassadeur Record RCN61 from Basspro Shops today ... I think i am really going to like this reel. It is MUCH smoother than the C3 and C4.

I haven't had a chance to actually throw anything with the new Records but have been able to play around with them a bit. The heaviness is due to the brass frame (chromed). This should make it very stable and reliable. The overall feel is much smoother than a typical 6500 C3. I understand the bearings are quite good and there is some extra adjustability in the cast control. The price is reasonable and I think this one looks like a winner. Will try at least one or two this year.
