| Looks like the wife and I will be heading to Playa Del Carmen in March. I would like to get out one day and do some fishing (dont think the wife will allow me any more than that).
Does anybody have any experience fishing in this area? I would like to avoid going through a big charter service to keep the cost down.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

Location: Lino Lakes, MN | Baldy,
My parents were down there last March. I know they took one very good charter and had a good time with barracuda. I guess the other charter consisted of them spending too much cash and speed trolling around a reef for 6 hours. Ill call them when they get off of work later today and let you know. One thing is for sure......the pictures I have seen from down there were amazing. Lots of beautiful scenery(and women). Have fun.

Location: north central wisconsin | Baldy, the wife and I honeymooned there last March. We researched and got a good all inclusive very close to a good marina. Great price, food and accomodations at the resort, and the marina turned out to be a short walk from our room. Our bellhop set us up with a buddy/charter captain who put us on 3 sailfish and a couple cudas in a half day trip(awesome), and showed us a couple shore fishing spots for more cudas'. Drop me an email. [email protected]
The name of the resort was the Cameleon Marivel. |

| by all means get yourself a mexican capitan charter for sailfish and white marlin. During March and April that area is they best in the world for both species. Most captains troll dead ballyhoo. If you are lucky you can get into some real nice billfish, if not, you are likely to catch dorado (dolphin fish, mahi mahi in hawaii) also can catch tuna, wahoo, many others. Trolling close to the reefs along the shore will get you strikes from barracuda and other reef denizens.
I used to fish this area every spring specifically to catch sails and white marlin. It is a reel ball. I always stayed accross the channel on Cozumel but we fished infront of Playa del Carmen and usually south. You only go about 50 yards out from the reefs to get into water that is literally thousands of feet deep. I really can't give you a captain because I now fish the pacific coast of Mexico , cabo san Lucas and East Cape when I go to Mexico but if you can handle the money you have to go out one day. Also it is often quite rough so take your dramamine. good luck |
