I'm in Independence, MO and this year's weather seems to be colder than last year. However, a friend down southern Missouri (close to Pomme de Terre) has been having a mild winter.

Pomme de Terre has been disappointing to me in the past few years. However, I feel it is ready for lots of fish around mid to upper 30 inches this year.

Not a lot of fish over mid 40 inches, but there are some.

Hazel Creek (electric trolling motor only) should be improving this year. Fellow's Lake (close to Springfield) is being talked about more (limited to 50 hp.....which limits me).

Last year I heard the bass fishermen on Pomme where catching bass all winter long on rouges. I don't know why a larger stick bait wouldn't work for muskies.

Don't know if that helps, but I really feel Pomme de Terre should have good numbers this year with a few mid to upper 40 inch fish.

Eric,

I'll be traveling back and forth between MI and GA for the next few months. I may be able to swing thru and do some MO fishing. What waters did you have in mind? Right now it looks like I'll be back to GA for the 3'rd week of Jan.

BTW I grew up in St. Louis and spent many an hour floating/fishing these MO Ozark rivers: Current, Jacks Fork, Eleven Point and St. Francis. No muskies, we went for the smallmouth in those days.

Dec 18 and the water temp on Pomme is 43. The lake up by the river is frozen but the main lake is open. If anyone would like to contact me to find out the lake situation. Jim Wilson, Coaches Guide Service, spinnerbait@mailcity,com

It was minus 10 degrees here this morning, so 'thaw' sounds really good.
