| I'm planning to put a second pulling eye on a large Ukko, close to the tip of the diving lip, so I can run it shallow (and fast if possible). Rough plan is to drill small hole in lip, make a loop in a piece of sturdy wire, then feed the tail ends through the lip from the front. The loop in the wire will be what I'll hook my leader snap to. The tail ends of the wire I'll wrap tightly onto the front hook hanger. (Not sure I trust the strength of the lip itself to attach leader to.)
Anyone tried anything like this? Anyone have a better suggestion for the method? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to ruin the bait but am pretty psyched to try and get one of these things running just a few feet subsurface. TIA, Alex | |

If this works, keep me in the loop. I have two U40's that I would love to get to run shallow. I asked a tech rep from Ukko this same question, and they told me the aluminum lip is not strong enough to pull the lure using an eye mounted way out on the end. It does sound like your wire trick would work though. If the hole is drilled correctly it would spread the force between the lip and first hook eye. The rep also told me to try connecting my leader to the first hook eye. Never got this to work. Can you imagine a 16" wobbler running 1-3' down? Gives me shivers.

| The big 16" Ukko will easily hit a 20 foot running depth with a modest amount of line out... enough for me to dredge a new main channel in my home lake. I wanted it up higher, but didn't like the idea of drilling holes.
What I did was use a pair of welder's vise grip pliers (with the flat jaws) and GENTLY bend the lip down about 1/8 of an inch. The flat jaws keep the bend even, and prevent planing to the side.
What this did was lift the bait up CONSIDERABLY - it runs about 4-5 feet down with 10 feet of line out, but also amplifies the action to something much like a 10" Believer. I'd still like to bring it up more, but looks like the lip won't take much more without loosening. So for now, I'll be content with this modification.

| just saw half of the lip off! The action remains the same but the depth is half of the original one. Also, try doing the same for the 25cm nilsmaster! Great wobble and great shallow casting bait too | |
