Knowing that a great number of industry professionals use this board on a regular basis, why not pose my question here.I lost my job just before Christmas,a casualty of a sinking ship.I'm wondering what real opportunities are out there.I have over 5 years experience in the business myself. As much as muskie fishing means,I have to think about my 2 beautiful children and my wife first.I I would appreciate any feedback from folks that have been in this position.I truly enjoy the teaching/selling aspect of the fishing business ,and who better to deal with on a daily basis than fishermen(and women).Thank You. After seeing what took place on the Auction Board last night, I believe anything is possible here! Under the presumption you don't want to come to Va to work, I bet SOMEONE up that way can help....amazing thing about this board---people actually care about others + are willing to extend all manner of help to those in need. I think you will soon find what you are looking for![:sun:]

In the spirit of what Spongeee was talking about....I am a recruiter, though I focus on technology (which may not be what you do) I would certainly do whatever I can to help you with your job search. Even a few minor changes to a resume can make a huge difference. I will give any help I can.....as long as you are a C&R Muskie fisher.

Thanks for the support!I'm 34 with a B.A. in Sociology from The University of Iowa.My first job out of college was in car sales.Having played football at the U of I,I had a lot of contacts.( I was a walk-on linebacker in 1986).I've spent the last 5 years as a retail sales manager for 2 large sporting goods company and also had a 2 yr.stint at a locally owned pro shop. The absolute best part of store level is being able to teach as well as sell.I am willing to travel and may also consider relocating for the right opportunity.I don't need to make a ton of money(although it would be nice) but as I said in my other post i've got a family to consider.I would love to stay in the fishing biz but have to have the income to support both family and addiction(GREEN FISH).I welcome any and all feedback.I currently reside in Cedar Rapids,Iowa.Cudos to all involved in the Ashton Auction. What a truly awesome idea.Thank you MuskieFIRST for providing such a forum. add one to the pile..

I have sold boats for the Old Town Canoe company, sold outdoor supplies for United Outdoor stores, worked as a machinist, I spent the last five years working for a machine tool manufacturer in minnesota called Milltronics. My position was a field service engineer, everything from parts to phone support to fly out and fix. I was the senoir trainer for our software and repair sections. I am currently unemployed. I have worked in the outdoor industry before and would love to again. I am open to any suggestions from any field though.

I have no idea at this point. We have all developed skills with or without formal schooling.I actually used my degree once as a youth counselor .Great job satisfaction, but very low pay.At least not enough to support a family of four.Any ideas?Any business plans? Steve:
I have a Sociology degree as well and have been a Police officer since college (11 years). Made it to Sgt, but as of tommorrow (Feb 1) i am no longer a cop. Permanent 3-11pms with an 8month old son at home dont mix, I never saw him. So i swtiched to risk management and start next Monday. It will be wierd but the good thing is all the guys i will be working with are ex cops and fire fighters. Straight days with week ends off. That is a luxury to me. Keep pluggin away. [8)]
