Well just got some good news!! Going up to mercer late June next year. We went up there last year, hired guide and had to cancel b/c of really bad weather. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for guides in the area. Turtle flambeau flowage, etc.. We are staying on lake wilson, i know the lake fairly well, but no nothing about near by lakes. Anyone in the forums guide in the area?? I know my father in-law will want to do some eye fishing, in the beginning... ...But eventually i'd like throw for some ski's.

Thanks,
Mag

I believe Brian Long is a good turtle flam guide..as is Larry Ramsell if he is still guiding..I'd get one of those two..I'd shy away from the walleye guides up there that do some musky guiding..go with a guide who is musky guide mainly....

It is not listed in yahoo yellow pages but the tackle shop onwer across from the turtle river trading company in mercer is a guide. He has a 20ft lund alaskan, plnety of room for a couple of guys. Red headed biker looking guy with a beard, best way to describe how he looks. A really good guy and knows alot of lakes and can put you on fish, including the flowage.

My parents have a place on Wilson lake and I am up there every weekend I can make it. They have had it for about 15 years now. Down the road past Wilson a couple of miles is Trude lake, great walleye and muskie lake around 700 acres I think. Then past that is fishermans landing for the tff. Very nice landing there. I dont know any musky guides for the area. Look for me when you go up there it is the house on the north side of the lake with all the dogs. Cant miss them and sure you will hear them.

The place where we stay is about 2 houses down from launch. There's a huge set of stairs leading down to the water, a pontoon and a jon boat. When time gets closer, i might look ya fish. I've seen a couple 40+ inchers in wilson lost one, (fishing for crappies with 6lb test) and the other just was up to take a look. Last time we were up i think we hired Jeff Winters... ....Gillespe hires him when he fishes turtle flambeau. Oh we fished trude, no walleyes (couldn't find em), caught about a dozen pickerals and on 30" ski.

Been out with Larry Ramsell three years in a row on the TFF, after trying a different guide for a few years before that. Scored fish all three times, but even if we wouldn't have caught a thing we had a great time talking with Larry. Highly recommended.

I've been out on the TFF with Jeff Winters a couple of times. Good guy. We caught just about everything....eyes, smallies, northerns and Musky. If you're looking for water outside the TFF try the Turtle Chain....good musky water.

I have been going up to Mercer for about 28 years. I have a friend up there that guides and his name is Mel Belt. He lives in Mercer and I have caugtht muskies almost every time we have gone out. His number is (715)476-2049, e-mail him at [email protected] or check out his web site at www.muskiemel.com.
I'm just giving you another idea, I'm sure the others listed are great too.
