BIG FISH

I seem to get into alot of arguements about Alpha muskie fishing. Some say that there are no differences between fishing for big or small muskies in regards to presentation. I say that there are. Does anybody have any thoughts on this subject. Does anybody want to share their BIG FISH presentation techniques?

Location.
Then, after that, Location.
As the primary big fish concern, Location.
The lures I use get eaten pretty evenly by large, medium, and smaller muskies, with no discernable difference in technique. One needs to put the lure in front of a big fish to get one to hit.

my opinion...[:0] [:)]

YES, I definatly agree that location is the key. But, I have seen evidence that would show that presentation might be a factor.

example. Fishing with big baits I have found that I can somtimes pattern large skis in the fall with a long long long pause. The smaller ski's seem to disregard. Small baits arnt even an option and with out the pause there is no strike from the big guys.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I'm with Mr. Worrall here.

Big Fish = Lake choice + location!!!!!!

Repeat

Big Fish = Lake choice + location!!!!!!

Repeat

Big Fish = Lake choi...............

I would have to agree with Steve about location because two of three fish I have caught over 50 inches came on smaller baits, but this past fall actually very late late fall, size of suckers made a big difference. Which is probally logical, time of year and fish fattening up for winter, 10 to 12 inchers small to medium fish and 12 to 14 inchers 45 to 50 inch fish.[::)]

Mr. Tinker, you forgot to include in your formula, the proper alignment of the stars!

Location. The 5 largest I've caught on my lake came from two small spots. A 46" and a 45" in a 20'X 20' depression in between two big stumps in 6' of water on a point surrounded by a big cabbage. The other 3 fish, a 48" (in 1976), a 46" and a 45" came off of a small pile of boulders in 10' of water sitting all alone about 100 yards from anything else. Never catch anything there except muskies over 39".

Remember the old Fishing Facts article "There Isn't Any Justice In Muskie Fishing".All the large fish caught by children, walleye guys etc.Think about common denominators. The first that comes to mind is speed,or more specifically lack of it.Retrieve speed comes down to angler and machine. How fast we crank xreel with xgear ratio.I'm sure none of the old reels were "fast".Slow and Low is the way to go!Along with the other 100 techniques that can work in a given situation!(hahaha)I agree with Location, but don't forget about presentation.I guess we're back to the old In-Fisherman formula .Good luck all. First of all the first tip I have for you is don't argue with them and let them think otherwise. [;)]

I can tell you that yes location is the major factor but some times your presentation can make a big difference.

I can think of last fall when guys at the dock were explaining how they caught fish casting but none over 40 but the trollers came in with all their fish over 40.

I am a believer in big lures = bigger fish but certainly you can catch a monster on a tiny bait.

I say fish big lures in front of big fish and sooner of later you will connect.[:sun:]

I think that in certian situations big baits=big fish. I also think that speed is a huge factor. In non activity situations, rapid excelleration presentations (rip stop rip stop),I belive is esential for connecting with a hog. The problem is implementing this technique with big baits because of the fatigue factor. After about an 6 hours your arms feel like they are about to fall of. Unless you are following the patented JIM SARIC work out program. Did anybody see that article? His game face was hilarious. GRRRRRR....... (no offense Jim, I am a big fan)

Definately, lake choice. I would have to agree with the others as well that there are definately big fish spots as opposed to most other spots in the lake. Presentation has been key for me, and my bigger lures(on the waters I fish that is) have taken the big girls.
