| Anybody have any good advice on getting prescription polarized sun glasses (amber or sunrise lenses)?
Where?
What brand?
Thanks,

| I got mine at Walmart for $88 and they seem to work fine, but some members of this forum are ruining my eyes by making me read their posts telling me I shouldn't buy cheap sunglasses. I would recommend you get a single prescription ground rather than a bi or tri focal lense, I am bothered by the blended trifocals I have when I step up and down off the front deck, but maybe that is just me, I have after all fallen out of the boat 3 times, once in the garage
Also, I usually get the largest lens size they have for on water use, but you can get lenses ground to fit specialty frames also (for sunglasses) if you like. They can put them in a lot of different frame types but not wrap arounds. Do make sure they are polarized and give UV protection. |

| I bought prescription polarised glasses one year that were like shooting glasses, it was like fishing with a glass bowl over my head.....I hated them. Last time I bought glasses I got polarised clip-ons and I love them. They weren't cheap. I think almost 80 bucks, but most of that was the polarising. I like my glasses, so as my prescription changes, I just get different lenses. I use the polarised clip-ons for fishing only. They stay in a case and are scratch free for over 3 years now. Had them done in a brownish tint that is a little darker than amber. I think the eye doc that fits you for your glasses can help you out with some clip-ons.

Location: Athens, Ohio | I use a set of Fit-Overs that I got from Cabelas. Oversized glasses that go right over yer 'scription set (see my avatar on how they look - dorky but it works). They only run about $35 a set and can be discarded when you get them too scratched up. They also help keep my glasses on during rides to the next spot. The side and top shields keep out the glare like you won't get with prescription lenses. m |

What works great for one person may not work for you. No matter if you go cheap or expensive there are going to be negatives and positives to both. Talk to your "eye pro" and get his opinion. It will be worth it.
I am very satisfied with my prescription RayBans.

Location: Warroad, Mn | Here's a site that has all sorts of info on prescription sunglasses.
http://www.apairofshades.com/
I had very good luck with this site. Good service and a good price.
I don't think you can get bi-focals in a mirrored lens, only single prescription.
The site will show which style can be purchased as prescription as well as the
size of the glasses if you know what size will fit your head.
I bought a prescription pair of Ocean Waves (Kingsley style) in backwater green and they are
great. The biggest problem with ordering a pair on the web is making sure you get something
that fits. I went to a boat show and found a booth that had Ocean Waves and tried on
a number on different styles until I found one that fit.
I wear mine all the time, for driving, hunting, etc, as well as fishing.

Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | I have worn RX Oakly minute glass's for 4 years. They fell in the lake last summer and I have yet to replace them. For $320 they were pricey, but worth the money. They never shifted on my head and I could wear them while unhookin a fish in the net with out worrying they would fall off. |

Location: WI | It seemed to be my understanding that even when you buy an Oakley, Ray Ban, Maui Jim's, etc. prescription lenses that you don't get the lens that is made by the manufacturer, but only a set that is made by a regular lens company. I wanted to buy a pair of Maui Jim's but they told me not to if I was going to buy a prescription pair because it wouldn't be the same lens. I bought a pair of Ray Ban's a couple of years ago and the popped the lens out and put prescription ones in.

| I am on my second pair of prescription polarized sunglasses from Action Optics www.actionoptics.com and have been very satisfied. They will send you a few trial frames to make sure you get one that you like and fits. I tried to get a pair at the local eyeglasses outlets but my only choice in lens color there was dark grey. Action optics had a variety of lens color options and were cheaper than the other places I found online.

this taken straight from the costa del mar website:
Costa Del Mar Rx Program
The only difference between our prescription sunglasses and our premium sunglasses is the prescription.
You want the same quality from your polarized prescription sunglasses that you get from premium quality sunglasses. Sounds easy. But many leading brands don’t really know who crafts their prescription lenses.
That makes it impossible to guarantee quality. Not with Costa Del Mar. Our prescription sunglasses are crafted using the same WAVE (Wavelength Absorption for Visual Enhancement) Technology™ you get with our premium sunglasses. And we can guarantee quality because we work directly with the company making the lenses. That means you’re getting prescription sun lenses that are unmatched in quality and design.

Location: Yahara River Chain | A few years ago I had cataract surgery. They implanted corrective lenses and now my prescription is not nearly as "thick". We had a company here in Madison out of Token Creek called Capital Optics. I purchased a set of Costa del Mars with my new prescription in them. They are great! I did take a spill with them in my backpack last year and crushed the frames. Cap Optics is no longer in business so I searched the web and found a place in MN that carries those frames (sporter model). I sent them the glasses and they couldn't fit the old lenses in the new frames (too small). So I had them make me a new prescription. They may not be as good as the actual name brand lenses, but I doubt if I could tell the difference. I won't be without them. I, like Sworrall use to have real thick glasses and that was tough on the bridge of the nose as sometimes I would also add a wrap around pair on top of them. I think I still have a groove in my nose from all that weight. I hated it.
I suggest that if you need a prescription set of glasses, look for a frame that first fits you and then look for a company that will make polarized lenses to fit them. It will be a worth while investment. I also have a pair of H3Os with a prescription insert that I use for low light as I can change lenses to meet conditions, but they don't feel as great as the Costa del Mars.
