I fish a lot of suspended muskies with crankbaits, and can't quite get the baits down far enough at certain times of the year. In WI trolling is out of the question. Before I start drilling holes into $15 baits, I was wondering what the best doctering techniques are for certain baits.

What are your doctering techniques for cranks?? I mostly use Ciscoe Kids, Ernies, Bagleys, and Jakes.

I usually fish any depth over 12' with sinking crankbaits. My personal favorite is a Shark@ jointed model.I use a very erractic retrieve that incorporates pulls, pauses ,twicthes, violent upward pulls, and varied retrieve speeds from dead slow to burned.I favor this particular lure because it will sink fast in any type of wind, Many other sinkers do not get down in windy conditions;however Im sure others know of some that do.HC Meyer Seven Islands Guide Service Presque Isle Wi.

Hook size does help as well as small wraps of solder around the hooks.

If you happen to live in a state that allows more then one rod. Always keep one one rod out and try one bait over the side with different hooks when trolling.. Great way to kill time and perfect your baits.

I try not to talk much about this because ever since I witnessed a Paul Klein seminar and he mentioned tinkering quite a few years back I DESTROYED a lot of baits. I also came away with a few gems. One suggestion is to hang bell sinkers off of the split rings for extra sound and also weight plus it is not a destroyed bait. I also like the old JB Weights. Later Troy
