Subject: Leech Lake question...

I know Portage Bay and Walker Bay are good for muskies, but are there any other areas that are good? If so, are they year-round or seasonal? Particularly interested in the main lake and Agency Bay.

Walker and Portage Bay are good spots throughout the year. You could spend days fishing the long weed lines in Portage Bay and never really cover them. There are also great weed beds in Sucker Bay. The weed line on Leech is about 12 feet throughout the lake, start on the out side edge and start your search.
The first of July is usually the time period that we start fishing the numerous rock reefs on the big lake. The Pelican Island area, Mokey Reef, Submarine to name a few. Agency Bay and narrows hold fish most of the year with the fall being a better time. Don't get hung up on all the popular spots. These fish are pressured because every one knows of the spots, they are on every marked map out there. Do some exploring, I don't think there is a bad place to fish on the lake, look for forage and you will find fish. It is a big lake, try to get away from the crowds you may be surprized what you run into. Including suspended fish. Hope this helps. The is a new map produced by Reel Bottom. The map is excellent and is so detailed that they had to put out two maps to include all the areas, and no I am not affiliated with these folks it's just a great map.

Good luck, Murph!
