Location: New Baden IL | It was a flat dumping straight down today, what Chad Cain likes to call a frog strainer out there. The RedMan and I gave it an honest effort, but he was soaked through and miserable (his 4th day in a row of swearing he is going to quit---We've all been there) so we called it off. I have yet to catch a fish when it's raining hard like that...Have any of you tried sticking it out and had any luck when it was pouring?

| I have caught them in all day rains IF they were varying strengths.
When I have fished in a steady medium to heavy rain, I cannot recall catching anything once the rain had got going for more than 1/2 hour. Seems to depress them a little.
What ever happened on the bullhead experiment? |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I've fished in MANY frog stranglers, and can't remember ever taking a fish in a really heavy down pour. This says something about my common sense, even fishing in that stuff.
Another description for that heavy a rain:
"Was raining so hard it was like a cow peeing on a flat rock" |

| I've never let a little (or even a lot) rain stop me from fishing. But, now that I think about it, in over 30 years of fishing I have yet to catch a single fish during a downpour. Light rain, before the rain, after the rain, in between the rain, but NEVER in the middle of a downpour. I guess that puts me in the Sworral camp -- too dumb and/or stubborn to quit fishing even when its pouring so hard you can't see. |

Location: The Yahara Chain | I have had some success when it is raining real hard.....boated a couple low forty inch fish on the Mani chain one day when it was raining very hard and we raised another 1/2 dozen...all on bucktails.
The PMTT had a record number of fish(68) caught on the Yahara Chain when it was raining sideways for both days of the event. |
