Wondering how many of you guys have read this report?

This seems like a great plan for future musky stocking in WI. The DNR has identified problems with past sources for muskie brood stock in WI.

Their new goal is to identify 10-15 naturally reproducing musky lakes, 5-7 lakes on each side of the state to be used as brood sources for future musky stocking.

I'm excited to see how these changes will impact our musky lakes.

It's really a must read for anyone who has been following the great musky debate over the last yr.

Grass,

I've read the report a couple times, there's alot of material there! I would strongly encourage anyone interested in the work underway and proposed changes in current and future management plans across the state and the study planned for the immediate future of LL and WI fish in the St. Croix basin and elsewhere in Wisconsin read the document carefully. It is clear that cooperation between Muskie clubs, other interest groups and the DNR has accelerated this process to a degree.

Please notice that public concerns were noted, as were some of the issues many of us talked about last winter. It appears the DNR wishes to resolve any issues or question marks, answer concerns, and do what is necessary to guarantee the Wisconsin Muskellunge program is successful into the future.

That's what I read there, what do you think?

Many of our lakes in Oneida have already entered a new era of management. An example is the do-not-stock status of lakes like Pelican for the next several years. I have great hopes the density lowers some, but not too much and the quality improves even more over what's already there in the Trophy catagory. There will probably not be tremendous numbers of fish in Pelican, but the quality, especially if we can gain support of the people using that water regularly, should be Trophy class all the way. Concerns over the Muskies consuming panfish and walleyes in any significant amounts should be set aside, there simply isn't an issue there with the lower population of Muskies and the test nettings of panfish and walleyes showing exremely stong populations of both. It is that hope that drives folks like Norm Wild and Mike Roberts to educate the public and move for an increase of the minimum size limit there to 50". It is also our hope to bring tournament organizations and Chambers of Commerce, Guides, local anglers, and all other interested parties to the table and indicate how we can work together to preserve and improve the Muskie fishery on lakes like Pelican. We feel this can be done effectively without any negative effect whatsoever to the events they sponsor or participate in taking place on the lakes in question every summer, indicating a concern for and dedication to improved muskie angling opportunity in the Muskellunge waters of our county and those in our management area by Chambers of Commerce and Tournament organizations paralleling those of the Muskie angler of today. This is an opportunity for everyone to knock a home run, all we need is for all parties to at least be on the same page going into discussions we anticipate are going to begin this mid winter.

I read this report fully last night……..IT IS AWESOME!!! This shows that the personnel at the DNR are willing to look inward to find the best management practices and they should be commended for there hard work.

This report needs to be publicized up the wazoo so the public is ready when the chosen brood stock lakes need protecting.

What is sad to me is that I looked through the WMRP web site and found no mention of this report anywhere. I would think they would consider this report progress, maybe not everything they are asking for but many things brought up by them are addressed in this report. I would think it should make their Hot Breaking News section at the very least.

Nail a Pig!
