Hi
I would to stop guiding and working trolling motor from the frontal deck and let my clients cast in peace while control bow mount trolling motor from the central consolle seat.
I'm wondering to your experience about the best trolling motor and pedal unit for the job?
I have a 17 aluminium boat (something like alumacraft navigator) and not so heavy.
I have always used mechanical control motor guide.
Thanks

Sorry, I'd post in Pro presp. section.
Please move.

Lucca,

If your looking for a trolling motor to use for guiding, while being able to sit down. Well the only trolling motor that I would recommend would be the Minn Kota PowerDrive, you mentioned you have a 17footer, I would definitely go with the 24 volt, 65lb. thrust model if your boat allows the hook-up. The pedal has a 18ft cord that can be reached from anywhere in your boat. You want something that you will have plenty of power to move you around. The worst thing is to be under powered. You can look at all the models that they offer on the Cabelas website: www.cabelas.com. Otherwise you can visit the Minn Kota website and see all there products. But definitely go with the Minn Kota.

I have had a Power Drive and now have a MotorGuide DS. The MotorGuide has it all over the Power Drive.

I use the Minnkota power drive with the very small and convenient hand held remote control option.Sit behind the console and drive the boat. Its the only way to go in my opinion.

Ace has a PD with autopilot (as do I) and it works great. He's considered a Genesis so he doesn't have to go up front to deploy. That would be another option as well.

I too have the Minn Kota power drive with optional cordless hand remote. SWEET. The only thing I don't care for with this motor is the difficultly in deploying and pulling the motor back up. I would think they could figure out a better system.

the powerdrives are great cause you can work them from anywher ein the boat with the 18ft cord, plus have the option of the cordless remote, its gotta be the most versital trolling motor out there. but do yourself a favor and buy a extra pedal right off the bat!!! i always carry a extra and it has saved a day of fishing for me more than once!!!

yah, i love those products that cost a ton of money and you have to plan for their failure ... powerdrives suck and the only thing they are good for is hack saw practice ... go maxxum and bring the client up on a big front deck and let him/her cast first.

i'm not bitter about powerdrive failure in my past, i'm going to therapy and it's working.
