| Christmas is around the corner. Let’s send a bunch of paperback books to some of our soldiers in Iraq.
There’s no need to explain the value of this small effort to the folks who frequent this board. If you want to participate, I ask that you please….
1. Send a note to [email protected] and I’ll respond with my home address. Say “book drive” in the subject line so I know you’re not an e-terrorist.
2. Pick out one or two of your favorite paperback books.
3. Write something (a greeting) on the inside cover! Be sure to mention MuskieFirst, as this is the only place I’m, um, driving for books.
4. Send the book(s) to me by November 15.
A one time thing. You send them to me, and I’ll send them to them.
Thanks!

Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | Wish we could send them a muskie bait. Now if my wife would only consider a paperback over a hardcover. I'll be in touch. GREAT idea!!!!!!!!!! |

| Cool, folks are responding! Thank you very much!
Ok, a couple comments..
1. Please send the book(s) to me by NOVEMBER 15. Be sure to include some sort of note, a greeting, words of encouragement, etc. If you write it on the inside cover, then your encouragement will reach every person who reads the book.
2. This effort has nothing at all to do with being either for or against the war. The intent of the effort is do something nice for people who will benefit from, and who have already earned, the support.
3. I don't personally know anyone who is stationed in Iraq. I'm stepping forward, in my small way, because I've recently been impressed by amazing stories of kindness and bravery demonstrated by very good people who are risking it all in a very scary place.
4. I'm using the M1 forum because you folks are the only single large group of people with whom I'm associated. And I already know you are a thoughtful, helpful bunch of yahoos.
Ok, that's more than enough.
"Many thanks indeed." -Wallace

| Books rather than mags. Please choose whatever YOU like, something that you think is really special. Let the book be a reflection of you. Fishing books are great, but the options are unlimited. Consider, too, that the books will likely be left behind for the locals.
I guess I'll pick To Kill A Mockingbird, because it is such a great tale, I love the values that are demonstrated by the Finch family. It also describes struggles for justice and tolerance, which are in dire need throughout the mideast. And, Boo is way cool. |

Location: The desert | Great cause guys.......I have a friend over there and will be getting some stuff together for him this Christmas.......Just wondering if you guys would be willing to help send some of the troops on a fishing trip once their tour of duty was over. My Dad and I are hopefully going to start a non-profit organization for this type of thing for all the troops. Just wonder to see if there would be any support out there??

Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | An M1st Vets outing sound spectacular. I guess that it doesn't even need to be sponsored by M1st but that would be nice. I have an open seat in my boat that's for sure. I would be willing to bet that I can scrounge up another 3 or 4 guys as well.
Alos great idea Ranger I have to look around to see what I have for paperbacks most of my better books are in hard cover but I will check tonight for what I have. Probably no classics but some that are fun to read I bet. |

Location: The desert | Here are the plans that my dad and I have for now.......we are going to look for sponsors and or donations from friends or anyone willing to donate.....since my dad owns a Canadian fishing lodge he said he would be willing to open his place up and only charge what it would cost him to open it up....no profit made we dont want to screw anyone over or anything like that, just want to get the guys who were out defending our freedom out fishing as a way of saying thanks. So feel free to PM me or email me at [email protected] if you have suggestions, ideas, advice.....ANYTHING.....I'm looking for as much help as I can get here. Thanks guys.

| Don't know if this is a brainstorm, but at my age remembering to put on my underwear is.
I found an easy way to contribute.
I ordered 3 copies of "The Boys of Winter", the story of the 1980 Olympic Hockey Gold Medal Team, from amazon.com and had them sent to Rick's house.
I didn't have time to shop, and don't have that many books laying around, so for less than $25 I could send 3 new paperbacks.
Just a thought for guys who want to contribute but are in the same situation as I am.
