We were filled with anticipation on the 26th day of October as we released our 2005 tournament muskies into the Petenwell Flowage. It’s taken nine years to reach our goal of stocking 400 muskies per year. We’ve been close in years past, but with great teamwork, support, and the belief of our tournament sponsors and contestants, our goal was met this year.

At this year’s site, the Lure Bar & Grill, also known as Barnum Bay, we had contestants and tournament sponsor representatives helping us transfer the muskies to their new home…the mighty Petenwell Flowage. The majority of the fish went right into Petenwell and the remaining 50 or so was placed into the small bay. This day, as in past stocking days is where the hard work of the staff, sponsors and contestants really pays dividends. To physically take the fish, present them to their new home and wish them well is very rewarding!

A new 45-inch size limit started with this year’s season, including 80-river miles of the Wisconsin River which includes the Petenwell Flowage. These muskies, and all undersize muskies, will have the protection needed to reach a very respectable class size.

Plans are already underway for the 2006 10th Annual Catch & Release Petenwell Musky Challenge. The dates are May 19th - 21st.
