| Got a Merc. 9.9....'97 I think....has a thermostsat....
1-can I remove the thermostat w/out harming the motor?
2-what purpose does it serve in the first place?
***Can't stand not seeing that steady stream of water...the 1 time I used it I kept looking back to check it!!![:(] Thanks for any help![:sun:] | |

My friend has a merc motor w/ a thermostat(a bit older than yours) But he was having the same problem as you, he did not like the fact that no water was coming out until the stat started to open. So I told him to give Merc a call,They told him that the stat is for the cold weather starts and that it was not very important. He took the stat out in the beginning of last season and ran the motor all season long with no troubles at all.
You can also call your local Merc dealer and see what he thinks about it.
