Actually they had a collector die recently with a broad and good collection and Langs is selling it off. Rare piece, but it only takes two bidders to establish the market.

At the starting bid offered, I sure aint one of em!!!!!!

You'd think for $9K that they would at least pay the shipping!
Without teeth marks, I'd have no confidence in the bait. m

Who in their right mind would spend $9,000 on a fricken LURE?

You can get a decent boat for that!

Some folks have more $$$$ than they know what to do with, but I guess it's better than sniffing it up the nose

If you're a hardcore collector....

I understand the mentallity - but in terms of guns. Right now, there's a pre-64 Win Mod 70 in 7x57 on gunbroker.com that's 99% or better. There's probably only a dozen or so pre-64 Mod 70's ever made in that caliber, plus it's basically a brand new gun. The only other gun like it is probabaly in the Winchester museum. So if I was a collector of Winchester pre-64's - this gun is MUST HAVE.

So, if you're a serious bait collector with cash on hand - or a line of credit - this is a chance to own a showpiece.

Snowcrest, As a collector of Pre-64 M70's I have watched the prices on some of these things sky rocket to the extreme. While 7x57, or just 7m/m as they are marked, are quite rare the prices that they are asking for most of them is unreal. They can ask the big bucks but you never see them selling for those prices. My 7m/m M70 I picked up for around $2800 and it is in 97% or better shape. The 250/3000 is actually rarer than the 7m/m and the 2 of those I have I picked up for under $2500 each and one of them is a carbine which if you read the books should substatialy raise the value. I have seen 7m/m's and .250's being advertised for $20,000 and up!

Is paying $9k for a bait a little extreme? You bet! But in 20 years I bet it will be worth more than that. If you would stick that $9k into a car what would you have in 20 years? $1000 MAYBE!

Did any of you notice that there is also an 18% buyers premium added to the cost?

Those things are worth something????

The fish in the Rhinelander area love them. I have the one I am throwing and the two new ones still in the boxes.

Can I retire now???

LOL

Only if this is one of those rare lures that everytime you cast it you catch one...then again I would still have to think about it.

Sorenson, very true on the must have thing. I grew up around the short tracks of il and wi and a few other places too. When I seen some video tapes from the late 60's to early 70's of those race tracks, I had to have them at any cost. 3 tapes, 3 hours of viewing with dubbed sound from an old indy 500, 275 bucks and I would have bid a grand at the blink of an eye.

Yeah!! Good deal. Put me down for 5 or 6 of those!!!! For a lure that great i heard the fish just jump in your boat to see it.
