From the Symposium Chair Scott Law:
Our goal is to gather educational, accurate information about muskies and muskie fishing to distribute to
anglers, researchers and State Managers.
The symposium will host a unique blend of Muskie Inc members,
Professional Anglers, MNR and DNR Managers and Research Biologists. The
muskie range is expanding, more anglers are fishing for the species and
manufacturers are targeting the market. The symposium will host all these
players in a single setting to discuss strategies for "Building a Better
Future" for muskie anglers.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sue and I will be leaving tomorrow early morning to drive the 500 plus to Indianapolis. I am REALLY looking forward to the event, this is a stellar opportunity to listen to the top minds in Muskie Management and watch the discussion of the science surrounding muskies in general.
Slamr will be running a video camera and a still camera, as will I. We should be able to capture most of the presentations in pictures, audio, and some in Video, too.
We will report on the anglers, Pros, scientists, media personalities, and muskie legends in attendance. It's going to be a target rich environment for MuskieFIRST Radio interviews, that's for sure.
I'd like to thank the folks running the Symposium for allowing us full media access to the weekend long event. The material we will publish as a result of the coverage will be unprecedented, and should be a good read, listen, and watch for anyone interested in managing our muskies for a brighter future! | |

| It's too bad this event is scheduled during a time when most muskie fishermen are out on the water.
Isn't Rob Kimm going to be speaking at the symposium on Saturday? I don't see him on the schedule.

| It's killing me not to be able to attend this event...it's literally...right down the street from me. I could walk to it. I'm on baby duty this weekend.  It's time for some family time this weekend with our newborn... | |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The opening evening was facinating, educational, entertaining, and fun, too. An audience of over 180 dedicated muskie enthusiasts enjoyed the presentation as Margaret Crossman spoke for a half an hour about her husband, Dr. Ed Crossman, an eminent icthyologist with a lasting legacy, and his fish, the Muskellunge.
Professor John Casselman gave a memorial power point presentation focusing on Dr. Crossman's work, a fascinating and compelling presentation about the size limit structure in Canada, Dr. Crossman's work, and that of his associates.
Jim Saric wrapped up the evening with an intersting seminar about catching trophy muskies, and focusing on a brighter future. Main points were:
Develop new Muskie waters
Protect spawning habitat
Stock Correct strains
Create a consensus of Mutual Goals
Increase communication between anglers and fisheries departments
Continue Education
Energize our youth, get them FISHING!
Tomorrow begins with a breakfast presentation by Larry Ramsell, and then launches into a schedule that will be a challenge for our crew of four to film!

Tomorrow promises to be exciting. Tonight was, and the information presented by John Casselman will be a topic of conversation here and elsewhere all winter long!
