| I am finally trying to get into a fiberglass boat, however I am not familiar with them at all. Specifically I am looking at purchasing a Nitro 882. My first question is can aftermarket rails be added to this boat (or any fiberglass boat for that matter)? Also is it possible to add a bracket for a kicker motor to the back of this boat? Also if anyone has any opinions on this boat or Nitro boats in generall that would be greatly appreciated? Thanks in advance. |

| I have an Aries 1610 fibergalss boat. I added rails to the boat so I could mount trolling brackets. Now, I drilled pilot holes and then screwed the rail brackets into the fiberglass gunnels. The trick, and this is essential, is to drill the holes slowly and in several steps, small, then a little bigger, until you get the size you need.
Hope this helps.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I'm guessing it would be a bad idea to hang a kicker on that boat. It's designed for go, not slow, and may not have a design that is kicker minded. If you are looking Tracker, look at the Tundra, a rig that was designed with trolling and about every other technique in mind. Yes. it's aluminum, but that is OK.
Glass? I'm a bit biased, but Tuffy, Yar Craft, Ranger, Triton, and Warrior build the boats a Muskie guy might like for sure. |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | I would consider reading the bulletin boards for Nitro owners at http://www.bassboatcentral.com and then searching old posts on the boats & motors board at http://www.wmi.org/bassfish Also taeke a look at the unofficial Nitro owners forum at HTTP://members.aol.com/NitroOwners/ I know how exciting it is to get a new boat and and I hate to be the wet rag but you will find several posts about people suffering from many trailer problems and serious stress cracks in their glass on these boards. My next door neighbor has a Nitro that is full of cracks and he broke two mounts for the leaf springs. Its 3 years old. If you want a lot of boat for the money you might want to look at the boats for sale board on www.wmi.org/bassfish There are a ton of Tritons and other good brands on there with only one season of use and a full warranty.

You mentioned rails and kicker. DO NOT ADD A KICKER TO A BASSBOAT!!!. The vast majority are not made to accomidate that weight bouncing around back there. It'll also screw-up the balance of the boat and could result in shaky handling (or worse). As far as rails, go to www.cabelas.com and look-up "ranger rails". I put those on my bassboat and love them. Just remember when you drill into glass: 1. Use masking tape and put a piece where you want to drill your hole 2.Drill a small pilot hole. 2. Use a countersink bit and get it down to the fiberglass 3. cover the screw in Marine Grade silicone and proceed with the install. I even put a liberal amount of silicone on the bottom of the rail and mine as solid as a rock. |
