Well, my third foot control went out yesterday on me. It won't turn right anymore. After I get this one replaced, it will be the third one. My circuit board fried on me about two months ago. My copilot has sporadic problems with the motor turning and not stopping after I release the button on the remote and it just keeps going till I unplug it! Anyone else have a plethora of problems like I've experienced? Can I be stepping on the #*^@ foot control too hard? Maybe I use it too much! Gets really frustrating after a while...

Sounds like you have an anomoly there, just rely on the customer service folks to take care of the problems until they are ironed out.

Going through foot controls is nothing new, I usually go through 5-6 a year myself.

The spinning....thats why I would never own a AP. They simply get minds of their owns after a short time.

After 2 pedals and a control board in less then 2 years I went Maxxum. It has been smooth sailing for me ever since.

I have an 80# Powerdrive and a 40# Powerdrive on my boats. One important thing to do is unplug the motor when charging the battereis, and when not in use. This also prevents a surge from a storm hit or the like taking out the motherboard. Keeping the foot pedal clean is important, grit, sand, dirt, etc isn't good for it. I have only had to order one pedal over the years, and that one took a lightning hit in a parking lot in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Usually, if the pedal isn't turning the motor right or left, (this might sound strange, but try it) I turn the pedal over and sharply tap it on the deck a few times to dislodge any crap stuck in the workings. It's worked every time for me, but maybe I'm just lucky.

Mr. Worrell is right about keeping them clean for sure.

After I get done using my boat, I unplug the foot control and store it away from dirt and grime that can get into it during storage or while you are driving down the road.

Tapping it on the carpet will also help keep it clean.

I also usually try and blow out any grass, weeds, sand, etc.... that is in there at the end of the day.

Keep them clean and dry and you'll be able to keep them working longer!!

Any problems with trolling motors, especially Minn Kota's I would suggest that you try BassBoatCentral (http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com) and scroll to electronic and trolling motors section. John Jones is a service rep with MK. He'll help you out.

I know that the foot controls have to be kept clean. I have even dunked mine in the lake which seems to help. But they just don't last like they should.

Maybe I dunk 'em too much ????

I had all the problems you mentioned with my PD and I got a MotorGuide DS to replace it. This MotorGuide is sweet. Later
