I am having problems with my trailer lights. L turn doesn't work at all on trailer. R turn, both lights flash on trailer, only R flashes on truck. With the running lights on, the brake lights are constantly on , on the trailer. I figured it's a ground issue on the trailer, so I reconnected the ground. Nothing changed. So I unhooked the ground completely from the trailer. Still nothing changed. Lights worked the same as when the ground was hooked up. So now I think it's the trucks ground. How do I check the ground on the truck to see if it is working. 2003 Dodge Ram. Thanks in advance.

Mike,
I had a similar thing happen and also figured that it was the ground. The problem is, every time I tried to MAKE SURE the ground was secure, nothing changed. I hooked it up and drove around the yard a couple of times (Dad's farm) mainly out of frustration and the driving apparently scraped enough rust or something off the trailer ball to make a connection. I have no idea if it was coincicence or if it was really something to it, but it works now and I am not changing a thing on that trailer until it's time to sell the boat! Blew a fuse in the vehicle in the process too; you might want to check that. To verify that it isn't the vehicle, try another vehicle/trailer combination.

Hey Mike,

I've had problems with trailers, enough to find that it's almost always the ground. I would check your ground for continuity with a multimeter between the truck and the trailer. A bad ground can cause really bizarre problems. Sometimes it can be as simple as cleaning the ball on the hitch, getting the rust off so there is good contact. I had one problem with my Triton with rust on the retractable tongue and it made the whole thing act bizarre. If you disconnected it and it did the same I think you found the problem. Now you just have to narrow it down to exactly where it is.

Good fishin,

Tyler
