After the five-month long and fifteen qualifying tournament season had ended, the top sixty-six teams of 2005 converged on Lake Tomahawk for the WMT's Invitational Championship, held on September 24 - 25. The fishing conditions appeared to be ideal for producing numbers and big fish for the contestants, but the muskies had other plans as the bite was tough and only seven muskies would be registered for the contest. Gene and Dan Schulz would be the only team to double up for the weekend, taking home over $40,000.00 in cash and prizes, including a new Ranger boat. A second Ranger boat was awarded in a drawing from the entire field of 66 teams, and the team of Bill Guse and Dave Copple from Phelps won the second new Ranger boat, both provided by Heckel's Marina.

The WMT's Invitational Championship tournament paid down ten places:

1st: Gene & Dan Schulz, both of Oregon
2nd: Jason Baratka & Tim Mason, both of Phillips
3rd: Jason Molle & Patrick Schmidt, both of Eagle River
4th: Jeff Danielson, Elgin, IL & Bob Miesbauer, Butternut
5th: Ivan Stross, Cudahy & Doug Behm, Cambridge
6th: Jerry Myszewski & Erik Johnson, both of Janesville
7th: Bill Guse & Dave Copple, both of Phelps
8th: Dave Schmitz & Doug Bloch, both of Pittsville
9th: Bill Vierkandt, Nashotah & Rick Hess, Burlington
10th: Doug Grant , Wales & Don Grant, Jefferson
