I would like to add glide baits to my bait selection/use. Please share your favorite ones and a few tips on how you use them. Thank you ahead of time for all that reply.

I'd have to say Hughes River Shakers.
I'd promote my own, but that would be impolite.
Most gliders can be worked in the same manner.
Keep your rod tip low to the water, and snap the slack out of the line to get the lure to move from side to side. Pause between snaps for longer glides, or snap it constantly to get a walk the dog motion going.
If they are weighted properly, you should be able to pause the retrieve every once in a while and let the lure hover or sink very slowly. I don't like it when gliders plunge head first or tail first, because a large percentage of my strikes with gliders come when the lure is paused.

Andy,

Hellhound from ERC, and Nitro and x-glide from H2O, and last would be squirko's and jerko's from llungen.

The Undertaker and The Slammer Drop Belly Glider! Don't leave the dock without them!
I use both from the first day of the season to the last.

Beaver's stuff; lots of the others mentioned(HR, He!! Hound, etc..); Bikini Baits stuff; Hoosier Handmade Musky Baits(especially the Pot Belly Glider and 9" shad glider); Chae Dolson's Tippy darter.

Same here, but I don't work a glider the same as most folks, do I SVL?

I like the Undertaker, alot.
The new Perka. This thing is cool.
Any glider I've tried by H2O
Jerko, for sure, this is a versatile weapon
Wabull
Slammer Drop belly
I like to make the glider dance vertically and horizontally, and don't care much for baits I can't get to do that. I'm a believer in erratic retrieves, so I really make 'em move. Lots of pauses, but erratic as I can get the thing to act.

I gotta throw in a plug for the Castor - my biggest glider fish came on one last weekend. EXTREMELY easy bait to work.
The other one I've had success with is the original-sized Muskie Treat; it was responsible for my first glider muskie.
Others that I really like the looks of in the water, but as of yet have delivered me no fish (they will - I'm still learning this glider game):
Slammer Drop-belly, Wabull (I only use the baby version, but have seen the full-sized in action and was impressed), P-Ron-Ah

How? I have watched a couple of guys that I consider pretty handy with gliders use them and have tried to emulate their technique(s).
1) Short, rhythmic taps combined w/ deliberate pauses. Add an extra tap now and then.
2) Erratic, no, almost spastic twitching with occasional pauses. I can never get the bait to do what I want to exactly (he can, but he uses the reel more than the rod I think), but it really dances and I figure someday, with enough practice, I'll be able to choreograph the dance.
Either way, I feel that pauses are very important to any retrieve you are using.

Another vote for both the Hellhound and Slammer. Each bait has their own idiosyncrasies, so it's fun to pick and choose which ones you like. For instance, the Manta is exceptionally easy to use with a wide glide, but not erratic enough for my taste (though guys do reallly well on them). Slammers have a tight glide and quick taps can make the bait flash and roll or dart up and down like no other. Phantoms I like just as much as Slammers, and for the same reasons. The Hellhound has a larger profile, a great wobble on the pause, and the operator can make it do all sorts of tricks given the right amount of slack line (I like to run mine just under the surface then give it a HARD tap and make the nose pop out of the water just a tad). Try 'em all.

Nobody mentioned the Manta or the Hang Ten yet? A monkey on LSD could work a manta. Easiest glider to work.

No one wants to talk about Trueglide gliders. I know why. They think everyone doesn't need to know about these fish catching gems. But I will.
I've noticed Trueglides catch the fish everyone else sees but can not catch. These are the quality fish. No marks on them. Not the ones in everyone elses nets. My success has been on Vermilion, Mille lacs, Crow and my lake X. Most fisherman need the baits everyone else has, a few don't need any help. Trueglides are in the hands of guys who fish for big, quality fish. My bet is one of these fisherman is going to be the one that boats the true record giant. I'll be looking for the Trueglide booth at the muskie shows. capt bigfish

Saw this topic posted on another board and I like a lot of the ones already mentioned: Undertakers, Phantoms, Slammers, etc. Have to put in a plug for the Smutly Dog which works like a dream and also love the action on my H20 X-Glide. Tons of flash with a great "fishy" profile and has put some fish in the boat when nothing else would even get me a follow. Check it out if you haven't already.

I really like the baits from H20 and I gotta agree there is nothing easier than a Manta. I still throw my old Reef Hogs and they still catch fish.

Phantoms, all styles from the original to the 6 and 8 inch deep models, to the squirrely ones, and I got my hands on one of the rare 12 inch phantoms that I can't wait to throw. Well made and consisent action from bait to bait which is very hard to acheive in a wood lure.

I also like the 6 inch Reef Hawgs. I have Hughes Rivers, Mantas and Cobbs and various other glide baits. But after years of spending money on different ones looking for the "best" I've deceided that I just stick with buying Phantoms and 6 inch Reef Hawgs from now on.

What do you guys do when you get to the boatside with your gliders? Do you just drag them round in the 8 or try to work them in some way?

Usually with a glider, I will try to do something before I go into the 8. It works awesome with undertakers. Once you get control of the glider and know what it can do, make the glider shoot down right before the 8. This get's them to go quite often. The "death dive". If they don't eat then, then I go into the 8, but use your rod to swim the bait instead of dragging it straight.

Here are some of the new Perkettes baits ready to hit the water this opener.

I will be happy to post the results of these new gliders. I just thought I would share these with everyone since Beaver is not a big self promo guy.

TRUEGLIDES!!!

I own a lot of lures and I don't fish as much as some, but the best lure out there is a TrueGlide. The Hustlers offer one of the best belly-rolls/2-part glide I've ever seen. The Humpback can be worked in an assortment of ways, but most resembles the action of a Phantom on steroids. The Guppie is KILLER.

Joe's baits are so darn good, they catch fish working them or just reeling them straight in.....I'm sure you can catch fish trolling them as well.

No one has better paint schemes or epoxy finish. And if you want a special treat, get one of his FOIL patterns. WOW!!!

TrueGlides RULE!!!!

Not much of a jerkbait fan, but the jerks I do like are the Nitro's from H2O! As Steve Worral mentioned, I like them erratic. I work the 7" Nitro with quick pops of the rod on a slack line, with a varying cadence. If I wanted more of a true glider (almost strictly side to side) I go with the 8" Nitro.

I also like the HR Hughey for strictly gliding The undertaker use to be a favorite, but that has been replaced by the Nitro.

Trueglides again, just can't touch them. Other faves are Smutley's, phantoms, Shakers, Manta's, Hellhounds, Slammers and quite partial to a Gene's wide glide.

Mantas and Undertakers.

I upsized the hooks on the Mantas, and have had some better hooking percentages. Also, that Smokies exclusive color....smokin bluegill looks to dang good on one of my mantas. GMG got me hooked on the undertakers.

Are people throwing Mr. Automatics?
