Location: Downers Grove, IL | ...how do you do it without beating the crap out of the bait trying to get the pin out? OR - does a split ring make an easy fix without inhibiting the action of the bait? I had to cut the middle hook on my favorite 6 incher to a fish not much bigger..argghh.. |

| I am of the opinion that split rings ruin the action especially on the 6 inchers...Ben just buy the cotter pins and you will be fine... |

| I cut all the hooks off of my reef hawgs. Replace with split rings. One trick to keep the action and keep the middle hook from fouling is to put a small piece of shrink tubing over the middle split ring and base of the hook. It works great and makes it a better hook up bait. Good luck. |

| I've learned from the boards and personal experience, that you can split ring the front and middle hooks, but a spilt ring on the back hook will reduce the action of most 6" Reefers. Heck, If I were you, I'd simply fish it as a two-hook bait. I do not see any need for a bait of that size to wear three hooks. If you need to compensate for the loss of weight when you remove the middle hook, take some lead wire, solder, etc. and place a few wraps around the shank of the front treble. |

Location: north central wisconsin | I don't care to split ring any of the hooks on my Hawgs, but if needed, it ill do in a pinch on the 8"ers. I wouldn't do it on the 6's at all. The cotters are very easy to replace. |

| Honestly do not see a difference replacing with split rings on 6 or 8 inch models, they run the same and still catch fish.bill |

| I learned from a veteran LOTW guide/lodge owner a long time ago about the blessed 6" Reef Hawg.He NEVER put rings on because he said it not only affected the action on SOME, but they caught more weeds from "swinging" hooks.I fish mine in/around weeds a great deal so I go standard.I dunno, I met a real veteran of the Muskie Wars this weekend who does some awesome mods to his, which includes rings.I know a tackle shop that sells replacement cotter pins, but most hardware stores have 'em too.Muskie or Musky? All I know is "BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE 6" REEF HAWG".On video.
