The WMT closed the 2005 regular season at the Southern Region Finals on Okauchee and Pewaukee Lakes on September 10-11. This tournament turned out to be one of the most exciting muskie events in the history of muskie tournament fishing. With one cast and one muskie eclipsing the 50 inch mark, the team of Rick Hess and Joe Perry captured the 50 inch pool money that had accumulated to $19,000.00 since it began almost three years ago at the 2002 Championship. They also scored on another giant that measured 45 3/4 inches, that gave them the first place victory and the record for the best single day double at a WMT event.
The WMT's Southern Region Finals tournament paid down ten places:
1st: Rick Hess, Burlington and Joe Perry, Oregon, Ohio
2nd: Jim Kraak, Brodhead and Aaron Lucht, Janesville
3rd: Scott Gindt, Jackson and Dan Sheehan, Hartford
4th: Dave Stewart, Slinger and Wayne Stewart, Milwaukee
5th: Kevin Moore and Ben Maslowski, both of Waukesha
6th: Don Kling, Lannon and Mike Marinkovich, Menomonee Falls
7th: Tony Podhora and Mark Gillich, both of Woodruff
8th: Ivan Stross, Cudahy and Jim Benoit, Waukesha
9th: George Kingsland, Pardeeville and Patrick Kingsland, Endeavor
10th: Dick Lapp, Land O'Lakes and Rick Lapp, Iron River, MI
