How'd the fish treat you this long holiday week/weekend? Slamr, Theedz, Tomyv, Crash McGolden and I hit the water for a couple afternoons, with good results. Slamr got his personal best and a 34, I got a nice fish with Theedz, and we raised a couple monsters. Violent Strike Willow Mags were the hot baits this weekend.

How'd you do out on the water?

Good. Met my buddy in Hayward at his cabin for our annual Labor day weekend outing. We used the camp as a sattelite and went west from there. I got a 39"er at noon on fri and headed west from there for a 49" at sunset/moonset Sat. We had had her up earlier on a reef hawg. She nailed a Triple Take(lure my buddy makes), I missed her, cursed, then she hit again about half way in. That was it for us. There were not that many people on the hayward area lakes in my opinion for a holiday weekend. I suspect the gas prices are playing a role in that. I know that if things don't change, I will be cancelling a few of the longer trips for this fall, in trade for some closer fishing.

My daughter came up from Chicago last Tuesday just for a day fishing with her Dad. Made me cry. A long road trip for her but it paid off with her boating a 42" on a Pacemaker. She almost OD'd on NO Doze on the way home.

Saturday night was some fast hot topwater action. I caught a 32" and a 40" within minutes of each other and at 7:45 pm on my last spot caught a 47". All were caught on that same Pacemaker off of small mid-lake humps that no one else seems to be fishing. Sunday and Monday were total busts for catching but the fishing part was still fun.

Went out monday morning and caught a new personal best. It was a fat 42"er. My fourth musky in my first year fishin them. Caught it on the same lure, in the same area i got a 41"er earlier this year- firetiger grim reaper wildcat spinner bait. (wasn't the same fish because one had a scar on its side)

Perc why don't you put away the giant baits and throw nothing but a bucktail or a spinnerbait. You will catch a fish.

I fished Piedmont Lake in Ohia yesterday. Had one small one follow a Tuff shad crank bait to the boat, caught two bass, one large and one small mouth.

I was back in the shallows pitching a Mepps when I brought it toward the boat I raised a good fish who had been laying in the mud not three feet from the boat. I guess I brought the bucktail up his back side and I don't know who was more surprized, him or me, but he took off under the boat. Nice day to be out for a change. m

Fished some mercer area lakes with a buddy of mine and we had action from 23 fish with two caught a 33 and a 38. About 8 more struck baits and had at least one strike on every lake we went to.

Slamr congrats on that pig!

Scored this nice 42 inch Indiana musky this weekend in bluebird skies and amongst drunken pleasure boaters. Had three ski boats pull up and witness my catch for me! Check out the cutie in the bikini

Bytor,
I threw a weagle for most of the day followed by a red llungen tail...I only use those big baits every once in a while while trolling or in places that actually have a catchable population that act like muskies...aka...no where in Iowa...

Big Perc,
If you ever get up in the Rhinelander area, look me up. The hideout is usually open, and we have about 50 really top shelf muskie lakes within an easy drive.
