| Considering buying a Lamiglass that can throw lures 1-8 oz. The price is comparable to that of an Avid. My question is has anyone used both, if so, what did you like dislike about them? I really like my 7'6" Avid but find the butt section to be too small. I'd also like something with a little more backbone that could maybe throw larger baits like 10" Jakes, Mag Dawgs, Dawgs in general, monster topwaters, and maybe heavy spinnerbaits. Thanks.
Also, what other applications have I missed that you might use a Heavy, fast action rod? Do you disagree with the above applications (not the right rod for the job)? Thanks again.

Location: Iowa | I own an 8'6" Lamiglass rod XH Fast Tip and I love it...I use it for trolling and casting my big baits...were talking 12 inch plus baits here...I also use a 6'9" premier rod to casting some of my larger jerkbaits...10+ inches...but that lamiglass rod...either the 8' or the 8'6" are awesome rods...I love mine...

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I'm a big fan of the Lamiglas, and I like them for the blend of power vs. a light weight, with a LONG handle. I dont throw the St. Croix for the same reason: the shorter handle. However, if you find positives to the Avid that go beyond the handle size deficiency, any good rod/reel repair shop can add 3" on for a nominal charge. |

Location: Neenah, WI | The Lamiglas are great rods I used them for 2 years prior to the start of this year. This year I bought all Avids, I'm of the opinion that the Avids are nicer rods to fish with. I like the bigger diameter cork handles on the avids. The Lamiglas rod s are really tapered well and balanced too, however the lami's that I owned were all cork handles with a plastic cap on the end of the rod. The redesigned the line and now have a big foam blunt on the end of the rod. I personally don' t think you can go wrong with either of them but I prefer the St. Croix Avids.

is there a shop that can extend the butt section of an avid and premier in the twin cities. the small end on the st. croix's drive me nuts, but i love the blanks a ton. |
