My little sister is getting married in Cedar Rapids Labor Day weekend. I was hoping to bring the boat and fish Pleasant a little. I hear the water was a little low. Is it still? Is it worth bringing the boat?

How did you do on 3-mile with those hot temps?

If the water temps are up around 80 it would not be a very good idea...but by then they should be down...I have fished it once and it was real spotty...here good things from time to time though...

I hope the fish fared well this summer with the locals fishing it when surface temps were pushing 90 degrees. Steve

We just went there to try some lures that I put together. I didn't have any hooks on them, but my wife was throwing a 1/16 jig, and worm. I did get a roll on one. I got to see the side of it. Probably in the 40s. Don't know for sure, just guessing. We put a new locator on, so we were trying to set it. We were mostly on the east side. She caught a good cat. We never keep anything, so just another good day. Doug

I haven't fished 3 mile for muskies. I am up in Des Moines and didn't know any were that close.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,

nc,
Have you ever fished on Big creek for muskies it is in your back yard . There are some big ones in there to . I was told that someone got a 52" out of there this year and several others. Talk to the guys at sportsmans warehouse they have some local knowledge. As for water temps they are in the low 70's last i checked a couple of days ago.

Pleasant Creek is by far your best shot for Iowa muskies in other than the IGL's. Not only are there #'s but some hogs in there too.

By the way, the guys at Sportsman's don't know $%*& about musky fishing so good luck with that. I think slopmaster is trying to divert attention away from PC, those guys are getting kind of funny about "their" lake. PC rocks!!!

I have to agree with DirtEsox here...PC is probably your best shot...I was on PC last year and had a buddy of mine get 3 in 2 days...real nice fish...IGL's would be your next best shot...I have been fishing Big Creek for the past 3 years and have yet to catch one...and I haven't heard of anybody catching anything really big...a couple small ones here and there that are more by accident than anything else...I fish with one or two guys that fish Big Creek pretty regularly and we have had minimal success at best as a group...the guys at Sportsman's Warehouse really don't know what they are talking about...PC or the Iowa Great Lakes...good luck at 3-mile or Big Creek...they both blow ass...if I didn't live so far away I would be at PC or the IGL's every weekend...good luck...

Come on guys everyone can read between the lines on your messages that you are trying to steer everyone away from big creek for your own quit being selfish . And everyone knows that pleasant creek was very good last year but this year is diffrent ya they are still in there but they are in big creek to stop hiding the facts just ask the region dnr they won't lie. nc is just looking for closer fishing without driving all across iowa to do it . Every lake that has muskies in iowa has a fair population of them and are worth fishing. Just put some time in and find them. Anyone that has some knowledge can get a few when conditions are right.
keep your line wet, Brad

Got out on PC for the first time this weekend. I really liked this little lake. Lots of humps! Everywhere I went it was a drop off or at the very least a depth change. Didn't get any, but will definately be back when I visit my parents.

Muskiemike,

Glad you made it to the lake what were the water temps and water clarity like. It does have some nice structure and some very nice muskys in it to. Get em next time.

Water temps anywhere from 76 to 80. Water was very green. Couple feet clarity at best. Now that I have been around the lake once trolling. I know right where I will start casting next time.

I am from Des Moines and I go to Coe College in Cedar Rapids. Consequently, I have fished both lakes quite a bit and don't try to "protect" either one. With that being said, Pleasant Creek is a FAR better place to fish than Big Creek. There are a lot more fish in Pleasant Creek and some really good sized fish too. Over the years I have caught a lot more fish out of Palo than Big Creek. I have had VERY limited success on Big Creek and I have fished the lake for years. If you want to have the best shot at catching a fish, go to Pleasant Creek. My 2 cents.

I appreciate all of the advice. My family lives in Waterloo, so PC isn't too far for me either. Heading to Eagle this Friday so
hopefully I will have lots of stories to tell when I get home!
Thanks again, I do appreciate it.

Wow Steve, still can't let things be huh? Thought I'd start visiting the sites again, but see some of us are still living in the past. Oh well, talk to you again next year.
Good Day,
Shawn
