Can someone explain to me how to fish a Musky Jig? I picked up a J-mac Musky jig the other day after reading something about them a while back and figured I would give it a try. The only problem is I do not have a clue how to use the darn thing. Is this more of a cold-water lure? I do most of my Musky fishing on the Susquehanna River.

Thanks, Dave

Cast and reel.

Pause sometimes.

I use heavy spinning tackle but casting tackle will work. Always cast with the wind so you can watch your line. Cast the jig out, and watch the line. When the jig hits bottom, the line will bow. Point the rod directly at the lure and reel quickly, probably two to three times, pause and watch the line. The second it goes slack, repeat. When the jig hits about 3/4 or more back to the boat reel very quickly to the boat and pause, allowing the jig to sink back a bit, just in sight. Use a soft wire leader, and lighter line, say 35# in a superline or 17# in monofilament. Weedlines are primo too, just 'pop' the jig out of the weeds and repeat. That's alot easier to do with spinning tackle.
