I have a Falcon rod. They are excellent rods great for twitching jerk baits. Great Hook set.

I have one problem, my reels keep coming loose. Does anyone have a suggestion how to prevent my reels from coming off this rod? Is there a "grip" spray? Or use some a rubber gasket? Any suggestion are appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

Easy, just wrap the bottom of the reel( mounting studs) with a couple wraps of electrical tape. It will be as snug as a bug in a rug!

Try using an bicycle inner-tube cut to fit under the reel seat, add as many layers as needed to get a snug fit and you should be ok

Thank you for your response.

Its not that their is space between the reel and rod. I am sorry if I wasn't more clear on that. When you tighten the rod to the reel it is very snug. What happens is after a few casts the rod loosens up. Any other ideas?

I'd bet that when you're working the bait you actually are loosening the nut. I have to tighten mine a couple times a day. What I finally did was wrap the threads with a piece of electrical tape, but the reel on and just tighten the ever lovin snot out of it with both hands.

Sucks if you ever want the reel off the rod, though.

Well then in that case you might want to try some Lock Tite, just make sure you do not use the permanant type

i've got a similar problem - reel comes loose/pops off the rod seat because i've got a seat-nut that won't tighten down properly...

it starts to screw tight and then at a certain point pops past (or back?).

i've tried putting some filler under the reel to try and make it tighten sooner, but that just makes it hard to get under the screw...i'm ready to just ditch the rod, but if it could be saved that would be great.

any suggestions?

I have the same problem as Lambeau. I can actually get it just snug before it "pops off" but the first time I work a bait or hold it wrong while casting is enough to make it jump back again. It's pretty much a brand new Gander Mnt. Guide series rod and would hate to think it is junk already. I tried electricians tape but that doesn't hold tight enough. Nothing worse than having a reel that wiggles and moves while reeling. Any help greatly appreciated.

lambeau,
Can you put a small spacer in the rear portion of the reel seat so that the front part snugs up sooner? You've tried a spacer under the foot of the reel to raise it a bit and that wasn't quite enuf I take it. Try putting something behind it to push it further forward in the reel seat. Might work.

Use teflon tape on reel feet and on rod `threads. No mess and stays put.

hmm...that might be the ticket.
in looking at it, my first thought was that the reel foot needed to be longer to match the rod's reel seat.
any suggestions on what to use for a plug?

Try a piece of leather or plastic - something you can cut more or less to the shape (and thickness) of the back of the reel seat, but can dig out if it doesn't work.

First thing I'd try there is a different reel.

I never thought about it before, but the reel seats ARE different on all my rods.

Fellas, I don't know how old your rods are but I had the same problem with one of my "Berkley Lightning Rod" musky rods. It's the threads. The rod was 2 years old and I e-mailed Berkley with the problem. Granted, I own about 8 Lightning Rods from ultralite through musky weight but when I wrote to the company I pointed out that I had seriously considered buying a St Croix but had such good experience with their product that I was confident it would service me proudly. They told me to send it in and they'd replace it at no cost. They also said to let them know if I had any more problems. These companies will generally bend over backwards to keep a customer in their stable.
Market share, market share, market share. Use it to get great customer service. After all, these are very expensive rods we use.

Just a thought......

It's the threads.

yep.
and i'd be inclined to send it back if it was a decent rod.
my problem's with an Aurora Trillium (SWorrall signature series, mind you) that i got for $30 on eBay. it's cheap enough to feel ok tinkering with and if i ruin something it's not like losing an expensive rod.

Here's what you do:
Tighten up the reel seat until it's as tight as you want it, then set about three or four TIGHT wraps of electrical tape around the thread and the back end of the nut, making sure it's not where it'll bother you when using the reel/rod combo. If the nut is jumping the thread, that fixes it, and it's impossible to loosen up while that tape is there, too.

Tape will work fine but might feel like trouble when you switch reels on the rod or leave sticky "goo" on your hands and rod (especially on a hot sunny day). The sticky wax they have out for snowboards and X-country skiis will work good in the threads. It will lock up and not wiggle loose. Too clean and dry will work loose as you work the reel handle all day long. Try it.

If the reel seat or nut is goobered up like Lambeau's, adhesive, thread lock, or other compounds won't work. Just hit the very back of the nut and the first couple exposed threads with a high quality tape like 3M, and you'll have no problems with anything at all. It takes about 30 seconds to remove the tape if you want to change reels. I have two rods in my boat now that are taped.

Good quality electrical tape is the key.

I've tried the tape like Worrall mentioned and in most cases it will solve the issue. Snug the nut just to the point it's ready to jump/loosen and then tape it in place.

Lambeau, looking for material to cut to try to put under the rear leg of the reel. Try a piece of the clear plastic case (clam shell) that some lures or line comes in. You can add layers to it if need be and you can cut any shape you want. Just an idea...?
